Year 10. The dreadful year ten, the scary year ten, the important year ten... year ten. Uh. Even though I dropped all the subjects I found extremely boring like technology and ICT School was still pretty boring. I mean it had been a few months since my book had been published and everyone in school had literally just found out about it. That first day of year ten I walked into school and it was like I was wearing a clown costume or something, weird. Everyone was giving me strange looks and seemed very unsocial.
That's when some of the kids in my new year came running up to me, "Oh my god, Gwen!" Beth yelled whilst her friend screamed, "You wrote a book!"
"Wow, guys, you only just found out? I mean yes. And dang proud of it." What the hell was I saying?! They seemed really excited to be around me but I had absolutely no clue how to act around them, I mean they were popular.
I knew pretty much everyone in my years name and still didn't know how to act around some of them, with others it came easy but some... yeah. I walked past them and bumped into more people. They screamed questions at me and I blinked a few times, little overwhelming. I didn't take well to celebrity treatment, something I should probably get used seeing as how I wanted to be an actress. Someone grabbed my wrist and dragged me away from the crowd, thank god. "Tessa!" I exclaimed realising who it was, "Hi." She dragged me all the way into the giraffe house but saw a crowd of our year and turned us around, quickly. The crowd saw me and literally ran toward us. "Gwen, run." Tessa suggested.
"Right." I replied turning, and running. Usually running would come easy but seeing as how I was in a skirt, you get the picture.
We ran all the way to the safety of our tutor and I was bloody grateful. "Geez Tessa. Thanks." I panted in between breaths. She waved me off as a reply, probably as tired as I was. A run like that at 20 to 9 on a Monday morning was just the way I wanted to start year ten.
I dropped my bag on the floor and slumped into the nearest chair, glad to be resting. As soon as I regained my breath I started up conversation, but Tessa beat me to it. "How come you didn't say you'd written a book?" she asked, real serious. "I saw your name on the book in Waterstones, how come you didn't say?"
"I suppose I was waiting, I guess. Waiting until people realised, only a few actually knew. Like John Green, J. K. Rowling, Kacie-."
"Wait John Green and J. K. Rowling?" she interrupted, amazed and probably a little confused.
"Yes, now keep up." I frowned, "Others knew too, Kacie, Steve, Isabelle-."
"You do know you'll be treated as absolute royalty in English? Each teacher will want you." She interrupted, again.
"I suppose. I didn't really think it through when I agreed to have it published; it was only supposed to be a story on Wattpad. Now I think about it." I stood up and walked to the window, watching people rush by.
"Why think about it when I can look at it?" Tessa joked. I turned around and saw she had the book in her hand. Fabulous.
"Put it away!" I ordered trying to snatch it out her hands.
"Oh come on Gwen, it's only a book."
"Yeah a book that's going to make me the centre of attention for the next three weeks." I lashed out again but her arms were longer than mine.
"Probably not three weeks, more like five." She joked. I finally got it from her and hid it behind my back as people walked past the door. "Hey, that's my copy." I let her have it back and she placed it in her bag.
"When the others all walk in here I'm going to be dead aren't I?" I asked, it was pretty predictable though. The dream then popped into my head and I shuddered.
