Life is such a coincidence, “Right, so it was just like using me to get to my bro, smooth Kas smooth.” I joked around with Kassie as I tapped my pen in geography.
“No, it was nothing like that, you’re still my friend Gwen.” She replied fast. I looked at her like ‘really?’, to be honest I didn’t believe her. “Shut up.”
“I didn’t say anything!”
“You were going to. It’s bad enough I have to sit next to you.”
“Jeepers, am I really that bad?” I said sarcastically. Kassie glared at me annoyed. I shut up.
Turns out my life just got even more awkward, Kassandra was dating my brother Tom. I couldn’t wait to start third wheeling! My own brother! I cackled evilly in my head and dropped my pen. It was true she had to deal with me for the rest of the year but what was in store she probably wasn’t expecting. “So that’s why Tom didn’t let me in on Sunday!” I exclaimed, a bit loudly too, the whole class looked up to see who was talking. Kassie shushed me. “You hesitated.” I whispered. She glared at me again.
I turned back to the work laid out in front of me, exam questions on super eruptions and the global effects. Fun. Something hit the back of my head, probably paper, and I turned around to see who it was. Nobody seemed particularly guilty so I just picked the paper up and looked at it. It said something stupid,
Arthur + Gwen = Arwen.
You guys are so cute, why did you break up? You both still love each other, it’s obvious. Just because someone got in your way doesn’t mean you can’t still be together. When love is real it finds a way, you guys just need to find that way and then you’ll be fine, I know you will.
Blech, how cheesy. I looked up with the note my cheeks slightly red to see if anyone was watching me read it but no one was, “Is there something wrong, Gwen?” my teacher asked suddenly.
“Yes.” I muttered quietly to myself, only Kassie seemed to hear though, “No, miss, everything is fine.”
“Well, can you please get back to the work then?” I nodded and picked my pen up pretending to concentrate, but I was actually thinking of a reply to the message.
Because it wasn’t real. And please, in future try to make your messages about love sound less cheesy, I’ve heard ‘when love is real it finds away’ so many times, you obviously got it from a movie. Arthur and I, it just won’t happen, not again.

I got my phone out my bag as I walked to the buses to find I had a text, from mum. Hey honey, I’m not home and you don’t have your key so could you stay at school a while and I’ll pick you up? Or if you’re already on the bus just wait at the neighbours. Meet you at sports hall car park, love you. Great, just great. Why did mum have to be late? I mean honestly, what was she doing? Lost track of time whilst shopping?! I huffed quietly and changed my course, the sports hall. It was cold out and a slight breeze had picked up, I huddled into my coat and walked past sixth form. “Don’t you get a bus?” I jumped out my skin as Tony interrupted my thoughts.
“Yes.” I shot at him unintentionally. He made me jump in the first place. He held his hands up in mock surrender. “Sorry, you just made me jump.”
He laughed, “So, easily scared huh?” I glared at his remark. He laughed again then changed the subject, “I thought some more about the dance thing."
Tony had asked me to go with him to Miss Elliotts office, our head of green school, to discuss a potential club, and hadn't told me he wanted me to help him do the club. Dance club for Green School. “Oh right, did you have something else to tell me? Because what you didn't tell me before was a big surprise."
