Story Title: Talking through a metal fence.

Hey guys! This was requested by Animemausi12 a heccin long while ago. Sorry for the wait 😅

Joe's pov

I had never imagined in a million years that I would be talking to a girl. But here I was. This frail outcast was talking to a girl through a fence at the wasteland they were clearing out for a school vegetable farm. We did this often and I was lucky no one noticed her as I pretended to do work near the metal fence.

"Did you sleep well last night?" She questioned, her voice sweet as silk.

"Yeah. It's so cold in there though I couldn't feel anything below the waist." I smiled as she laughed at my crude joke. Unlike the other girls at this school, she thought dirty jokes were actually pretty funny and would often make them herself.

"OI inmate!" My head quickly turned towards the sound of Meiko coming towards me. (Y/N) instantly caught on and quickly hid herself behind a bin she'd moved next to the fence.

"What are you doing over here? " She asked, her voice loud and threatening. "C-Clearing the area around the edges..." There was a moment of silence before she nodded and left.

I sighed in relief before I felt that familiar feeling in my throat. I began to violently cough, causing (Y/N) to jump up from her position and rush to the fence blocking me from her.

"Joe! Are you okay?" She frantically asked, making my heart flutter.

"Y-Yes I'm okay. I'm used to it." I spluttered as a bit of blood dripped from my lips.

"Here, use this."

I looked over at the fence. (Y/N) stood there, her uniform blazer had been replaced with a hoodie and her top button was undone with her tie slightly undone. She was holding a handkerchief in her hand. "You like what you see?" She joked, winking. I looked away and she giggled before gesturing to the handkerchief again.

"A-Are you sure?" I asked, my face flushed under my hood and my hands trembling slightly. "Of course I'm sure otherwise I wouldn't be offering!" She smiled. We both knelt down next to the fence and I slowly extended my hand and took the handkerchief through the fence. Our hands brushed against each other and I was about to pull away when she held onto my hand, intertwining her fingers with my own.

I looked up quickly into her eyes. She smiled back, her cheeks a light pink. "I can't wait till you're out of that hell hole."

"T-The plan to expose the USC is in effect. I'll be out soon and then...we could maybe..." I looked away, glad my hood was hiding my bright red face. "Maybe we could what?" She asked. "We could go on a d--"

"JOE! GET OVER HERE!" A voice yelled and I quickly jumped up, stuffing the handkerchief into my uniform. "I'll see you as soon as I can." I said before rushing back over to the others, leaving her kneeling at the fence.

Later that night I lay on my cell bed, turned to face the fall. I pulled out the handkerchief (Y/N) had gave me before and held it close to myself. I wonder what she would've said if  I'd finished my sentence... I coughed a little, my anxieties washing over me. Maybe I'm over thinking this...Just because she likes my jokes and gave me her handkerchief doesn't mean she likes me... I fell asleep, thoughts racing through my head.

The next day we were back working and after a few minutes, I saw that familiar face at the fence. "Hey you." She grinned taking her space next to the fence. "H-Hey, did you sleep well last night?" I asked. "I slept well." I pulled the handkerchief from my pocket and held it up. "I'm sorry I tried to get most of the blood off but some wouldn't come out." She laughed adorably and waved ehr hand. "It's okay you can keep it. See it as my first gift to you."

We spoke for a little while and I told her the plan we had for tonight. "So tomorrow we'll finally be able to see each other properly!" She clapped her hands together and I laughed a little at how happy she was.

All of a sudden her eyes widened and she quickly ran to her hiding spot. I turned round to see Hana approaching. Luckily it seemed like she hadn't seen (Y/N). "What are you doing sitting down like that!" She was way more intimidating than Meiko but she seemed extra angry today. "I w-was taking a short bre-" Before I could finish my sentence, a foot was launched into chest. It hurt so much and just as expected, I coughed up a lot of blood.

"GET BACK TO WORK." She screamed and walked away in the direction of the other guys. I writhed in pain on the floor and, after checking the coast was clear, (Y/N) jumped out of her hiding spot and rushed to the fence, pressing herself against it to be as close as possible.

"Joe oh my god are you okay?" She put her hand through the fence trying to grab my hand. I reached out and grabbed her hand. Her warmth was so comforting. I slowly got into a sitting position and leaned against the fence, hoping Hana wouldn't return. "I'll kill that fucking girl. When I get the chance I swear I'll punch her so hard she'll lose her front teeth." I chuckled a little at her anger as I wiped away the blood with the handkerchief. "It's okay (Y/N). Don't worry this doesn't usually happen unless Hana is on guard. Meiko is a lot nicer." I explained. "Oh yeah, Yesterday, what were you going to say?" She asked.

Fuck it. I took a deep breath before asking her if she'd go on a date with me when I'm free.

The next day our plan was revealed to the student council and we were announced as free men. I saw a girl pushing past the others at the door and (Y/N) came into view at the front. "Joe!" The other guys turned and looked at her and me in confusion. She ran up to me and without warning, kissed me.

I heard the gasps from all the other people in that room. "I've been waiting so long for that." She whispered at me, a big smile on her face. I nodded, sharing her smile.

"Now how about that date?"

I hope you enjoyed this oneshot. Sorry it's a bit shit. It's November so we can officially start talking about Christmas 😂 Woop woop the weather is shit and it's freezing.

Until next time Bye- Jude xoxox
