Chapter One – Lily – The Dream

The restaurant was crowded as usual, but she managed to find her dinner date without too much trouble. Unaware of the gazes that followed her as she made her way across the room towards a tall blond man who stood to kiss her cheek as she reached him.
The couple sat and seemed to be totally engrossed in each other, jumping slightly as they were disturbed by the waiter waiting to take their orders, a flurry of menu opening and discussion followed before they were left alone again.
The couple gazed at each other trying to hold the moment, almost knowing it wouldn't last forever...
I turned in my sleep, restless as the dream continued to play through my mind.
There's something I wanted to ask you the tall blond man said gazing intently at her, their eyes met, she moistened her lips nervously, pupils dilating as he continued to hold her gaze, what could he want to say. She hoped she knew, she hoped he loved her as much as she did him.
He spoke bringing her attention back to him, I'm merging the company with an American one, it means moving to New York for at least two years.
There was silence she knew she had to say something but what, what did he want from her, she felt her hand being held and his thumb lightly caressing the back of her hand.
I know this is a shock to you but I want you to come with me, I don't want to leave you behind. We are a great team - say you'll come.
Team? She thought.
She raised her eyes she had lowered after his first statement back to his, when do you leave?
Feeling her heart breaking, not one word of love had passed his lips, she felt like a package not a person.
How long have you known she asked him.
I leave next week he said.
How long she repeated.
About Three months, I've been meaning to tell you but it's been so busy.
Her eyes glazed over with unshed tears and his thumb stopped it caress as he registered the hurt staring back at him.
I hope it all goes well for you, have a good trip.
She rose from the table and turned walking away, silent tears running down her face.
