Chapter One – Octavia

Hide
The word whispered through my mind forcing me from sleep.
I could hear distant shouts and pops and as I became more alert I recognised the sound of gun fire.
I scrambled from the bed and rushed to dress, grabbing essentials into a bag I opened the window before turning back to the bed and making it, I could hear my mothers words now, distract, divert, watch. I glanced round the room, had I done enough.
I ripped a little piece of fabric off my top and caught it on the window catch, then taking a deep breath climbed on top of my four post bed, hiding behind the canopy and resting on the solid roof, my bag at my side.
I waited, watching the door.
