The Alpha Hearts Trilogy - Bostons Heart

Chapter One - Boston

"Yo Boss, you coming out tonight" James shouted at me across the locker room.
I finished dressing before replying "what's the plan?"
"Diner then Jessie's party" he said throwing his bag over his shoulder grinning at me "she's hot for you, you know."
"Not interested, I'll come to the diner but I'm sick of the girls hanging over me."
He laughed at my disgusted expression "dude what do you expect, it's been like that since High school." I shook my head at him and followed him out to the car park. The diner ŵas busy but as ever there was a booth available to us, I sank into the seat to the greetings of my friends, not bothering to reply beyond a grunt, I was bored of the constant arse kissing, everyone trying to get in with me, wanting to be part of my world. Those that were truly friends understood how I felt and wouldn't be offended by my lack of engagement and everyone else could deal with it.
James low whistle brought me back into the conversation "Christ look at that, rumours were true" he whispered reverently his eyes glued to the door.
My gaze followed his but all I could see was the usual group of girls by the door putting on coats ready to leave "what?" I asked him but then the group separated and I saw her.
Everything stopped, my heart, my breath, I didn't blink, I couldn't look away as my mind raced to take her in.
Deep chestnut curls fell in waves down her petite frame, she couldn't be more than 5ft2 perfect curves, delicate nose and ......, come on baby turn so I can see your eyes, my mind pleaded.....
I felt a sense of loss as my view was blocked and my senses came back as the group left the diner.
I could feel the tension in my body, my muscles getting ready to move me, I looked around the table and caught James eyes on me, his raised brow.
"Who?"
He shook his head at me whilst a grin stretched his face "exchange student" he replied making sure no one was listening to our conversation.
"James" I growled wanting more.
"Boston" he acknowledged grinning again "You should come to the party, that's where they're heading"
"Fuck" I groaned raking my hands through my hair, what was I doing?
Her image was imprinted on my brain, even with my eyes open I could see her, I felt my heart tighten and I let my brain process my feelings, not wanting to believe what was happening. I thought I had years till I was caught in my family's weird mating legend, had even wondered if it would work on me but what I felt when I saw her had no other explanation, my grandad, dad and brothers had all fallen and the story was always the same, one look was all it took, now I just needed to get her by my side.
I thought about her with the girls heading to the party and my gut clenched at the thought of other men looking at what was mine, my heart seized at the possibility of someone other than me touching her, I pushed up out of the seat, "Lets go" I told James, not waiting to see if he followed.
He caught up with me at the car and threw himself in as I started to drive "dude what the hell, your acting like your brothers when their wives play up" he moaned dragging his seatbelt on.
Silence
"Shit......really, no, come on dude you only saw her for what, 10 seconds" he spluttered looking at me as if I'd grown two heads.
James was family, my brother by choice, my parents had taken him aged 10 in when his parents had died in a car crash, the blue eyed blonde to my dark looks, he had grown up with our brand of crazy and had laughed alongside me when my brothers had fallen, he knew the legend had seen it happen.
"She's mine, now what do you know" I demanded.
"Late entry exchange student from England, she's here for a year, arrived last week, she's staying on campus, her cousin attends here but I'm not sure who that is, her name is Agatha Tate, she's nineteen" he tells me.
I smile at her name "Agatha, unusual, which dorm?"
"No idea but she was with Patty and Tiff so could be Bayley Hall, are you sure about this.." he trailed off.
"What haven't you told me" I prompt at his comment.
"You saw her, she's a knockout and in the last week she's got a rep for being frigid, she's icy and has frozen out every male that's approached her"
"Who" I growl not liking the idea of anyone going after what's mine.
"Travers, Lear, Kingston I know have all tried, but I reckon it's over a dozen others too"
I mark their names in my mind, I'll deal with them later or on the field but I'm glad my girls not interested in them.
"What you going to do if she freezes you out?" James laughed nervously.
"She won't" I tell him confidently.
"What about when she goes back to England?" He pushes.
I grin to myself, he and I know the family 'curse' and it's not just the men who are hit, the women always know their mate, it may take them a little to fall in line and understand what's happening but it's never not worked out.
"James, chill, all I need you to do is keep the leeches away from me and her, till I can tell her what's going to happen"
James snorted before laughing out loud "good luck man, I've a feeling you're going to need it"
Jessie's party was in full swing when we got there, James deflecting a few girls whose alcohol induced bravery lead them my way. I was on a mission, I had one thought only...Agatha.
"Boss" James called and inclined his head to the patio, I could see the outline of a small figure and my heart jumped again.
My body was moving before I realised it, "James..."
His hand came down on my shoulder and squeezed "go, I'll keep everyone else away"
I stepped through the door and James shut it behind me, taking up position leaning against the door so no one would follow.
Her body had tensed as I came through the door and I could see her white knuckles as she gripped the handrail.
I froze, was she scared of me? My brain raced, no I had just arrived, this was from something else but what, I didn't like the idea she was scared I would protect her.
"Hello Agatha " I said softly stopping next to her, watching her.
Her whole body quivered at the sound of my voice, good.
