Kicking off my shoes, I threw myself into the chair and sighed, it had been a long couple of months. Since the auction and Guy's attack on Teddy, my world seemed to have gone mad, I was so busy with balancing the fundraising I was involved with, with the my coursework that I had no time for me.
I smiled to myself as I heard Teddy returning, she too was busy with training, teaching and her own coursework, as well as spending time with her men. The Kingswood brothers had won Teddy's auction and had been there to save her when their cousin Guy attacked her. It was amusing to watch Teddy try to keep her distance but they were taking downs her walls a brick at a time and the change in my best friend was beautiful to see. Teddy was thriving.
"Lucy!" she called and I already knew what had happened.
"In here"
Teddy bounced through the door, dropping into the facing chair a scowl on her face "they did it again, I don't know how they keep finding me, its like every time I turn around they're there. This time they told one of my students dads off for watching me! I've done three years here without bumping into them, now its almost every day" she rants.
I grin at her "But you love it" I told her and she growled before reluctant smile crossed her face.
"Ahh, you're right I do but what am I doing, they gave me a key to their flat, told me to come and go as I want to"
"And do you want to?" I question softly, knowing she was fighting convention with what the brothers wanted.
"God... Yes, I want it, I want to try but I have no idea how something like this even works, I looked it up Polyamory, its done but quietly, how can we think people will accept this... for us" she groans.
"Teddy, if you love them and they love you, it will work, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Have you spoken to your parents?"
Teddy turns bright red, oh ho, this should be good!
"Mum lent me a book from her kindle, its fiction called reverse harem, i'd never heard of it before but there are quite a lot of stories. I never knew mum was so broad minded" she mutters embarrassed.
"Ohh. Show me, I'm intrigued" I say reaching for my kindle as Teddy pulls hers from her bag.
She hands me her device and I look up the title of the book on mine, my brows raising as I read the raunchy introduction. "Your mum told you to read this?" I question handing it back to her in amazement and she nods.
We settle into a peaceful moment before I remember. "I saw Marion today" I tell her and she looked up worried "And?"
"She looked unwell, she was coming out of the doctors, so its not unexpected, but when she saw me she left in a hurry, she looked like she was crying"
"As long as she didn't have a go at you, I know dad had a word with Aunt Clarissa about Marion's behaviour" Teddy said protectively. "I have no doubt mum will find out if there is anything really wrong with her"
I nod vaguely and lean back closing my eyes.
"Are you okay?" Teddy asks concerned and I nod.
"I'm Just tired, its been a busy few months and I know it will stay busy at least till the summer, then we can have a break"
"Can I do anything to help" she offers and I grin at her.
"Give your boys a chance and be happy, that's all I want you to do" I say and she giggles, throwing the cushion at me. "I am happy and I am giving them a chance" she laughs hopping up.
"Oh I forgot to say, Paul is coming to dinner" she calls disappearing out of the room and my heart jumps as I think of when I last saw him.
It had been the weekend of the attack on Teddy and we had all rallied round to keep her spirits up and at the end of the weekend as I had been packing up my car to head home, Paul had helped me with my bags, thanking me for everything I had done over the weekend and then he had kissed me. I can still feel the phantom feel of his lips on mine and the confusion on his face as he had stepped back, running his eyes over my body before turning and walking away.
I had stood there in a daze watching his back disappear around the building and wondering what had just happened. For years I had flirted with Paul, he was everything I dreamed of in a man but he had told me many times he was too old for me. I didn't care about age, to me, he was perfect. The beginning of that weekend he had again rebuffed my flirting, acting as a big brother rather than what I most desired: a lover.
But over the weekend something had changed, he had helped me deal with what happened, he had been there to support me but since then he had been avoiding me. Did he know I was going to be here tonight, if so, how would he act, and how should I act?
