Brothers Are Morons

I wake to a slight headache. After my bout of whiskey, I ended up being pulled into a pretty deep slumber. Alcohol, I suppose, slows my brain down so much as to keep me from dreaming at all, which was helpful. I'm a little hungover, but it's nothing that I can't fix with an aspirin and some black coffee. Checking the clock, I see that it's nearly ten in the morning.

"Oh, shit," I curse myself, throwing the covers off of me. I get up too fast, causing the world to shift and my cut to ache, but my moment of unbalance stops after a few moments.

"Sam?" I call out, and I guess I sound a bit slurred, what from the leftover alcohol and the tendrils of sleep still inside me.

I hear no response from anyone.

Walking out of my room and into the bathroom, I find a piece of paper taped to the mirror. After I rip it off, I begin to read.

"Lucy,

We're sorry we didn't tell you this before, but, we can't let you come along on this mission to find Cas. We didn't want there to be a chance of Lucifer trying to get you in exchange for Cas. Ruby came with us, so don't be scared if you don't find anyone there. We'll be fine. All you have to do is wait there. We already put salt around the whole house, painted sigils everywhere, the whole deal. Call our friend Charlie if you need to. Her number is 555-4892.

-Sam"

Dammit! Why did they go at this alone? I know my powers don't work on demons, but there must be SOMETHING that I could help with! Cas is my friend, goddammit, and I want to help him! It's the least I could do after all he has done for me!

I grab the wall phone and I punch in Charlie's number. Whoever she is, maybe she can take me to Sam and Dean before they go on this big hunt for Castiel.

"Hello?" a voice asks.

"Is this Charlie?" I ask.

"Yes," she says, "who's this?"

"This is Lucy," I pause for a second, "Winchester."

"Oh! What do you need? Is something wrong?" Charlie asks.

"I need you to come over to the house. Sam and Dean and Ruby can't go at this alone. I know that the demons won't give up Cas this easy," I tell her.

"Sam and Dean told me not to go get you. I'm sorry, I can't. You know that you're safer where Lucifer can't get to you," Charlie sighs.

"Where Lucifer can't get to me? Charlie, he's already in my head," I say.

"Fine! Fine. I'll come to the house. We can talk there, alright?" Charlie replies.

"Thank you so much. How fast can you get here?" I ask.

"I'll be there in about ten minutes," Charlie informs me, hanging up the phone. I put my phone back on the wall, and I go back to my room. I change out of my old clothes, and I grab new ones from my bag. Now, I am clothed in black, tight jeans, black combat boots, a Black Sabbath t-shirt that I had gotten from an old boyfriend about five years ago, as well as a grey hoodie vest that I can store my knives in. Since Dean would never leave me alone in a house without weapons, he left me a gun and some holy water. I stuff the gun in the back of my jeans, as well as putting the holy water into the front pockets of my hoodie vest.

After about fifteen minutes, Charlie comes knocking at the door. I had actually never expected her to be as cute as she is, but wow. Nice.

"Hello, Charlie. I'm Lucy," I say, formally holding my hand out for her to shake.

She accepts it, adding, "I already knew that, but it's nice to see you. I have no idea how the hell those Winchester boys are related to you. You look nothing like them, which is a compliment."

I get right down to business. "So, Charlie, did Sam and Dean tell you where they were going before they left to go find Castiel?"

"How many times do I have to say that I'm not supposed to tell you?" Charlie asks.

"You don't understand, alright? Cas is my dear friend. He isn't always there but I'd rather have him alive and well and only show up a few times as opposed to him being dead and never showing up at all. Look, Lucifer is only gonna kill Cas and Ruby and possibly Sam and Dean if I'm not there as a bargaining piece. I can be sold to Lucifer without telling him that I will follow him. I don't even care if he kills me, alright? He is never going to lay a finger on my family," I say sternly.

Charlie argues, "They know what they're doing. Everything will be fine, so just stop worrying about it!"

I know she won't give this up, so I go under the radar and read her mind.

Cas is two states away. Sam and Dean only left about an hour ago, which means that I still have time to catch up with them! Thank god!

"Charlie, I must say right now that I truly am sorry," I say, using my telekinesis to retrieve her keys from her pocket as I run out the door to her car.

"Lucy! Stop!" Charlie yells, chasing me to the car. I get in and lock the doors. She bangs on the windows briefly, but I drive off before she can attempt to stop me.

It's okay Cas. I'll be there soon. This can all be fixed.

As I make it about three hours into a five hour drive, I have to stop for gas at a local station. It's not a chain gas station, it's one of those stand-alone fill-up joints that you find in pretty much the middle of nowhere. Finding it, simply, was pure luck. Which, in my case, never happens.

Son of a bitch. There it is.

The Impala.

After paying for my gas, I drive across the street to the drugstore where the Impala is parked. I park Charlie's car right next to Baby, and as I step out of the car, I sit on the Impala's hood, waiting for my brothers to find me.

After a few minutes of waiting, Dean, Sam, and Ruby come out of the drugstore. As soon as they see me, their jaws drop.

"Dammit Lucy, didn't you read Sam's note?" Dean scolds me.

"You can't just expect me to be held captive in that damn old house! You promised that I would be able to help you get Cas!" I retaliate.

Dean argues, "Lucy, you need to go back before Lucifer finds you."

"I don't know if you noticed, but he already has found me. He's in my head, just waiting for me to say yes to him. Until we get him to go back in his damn cage, I'm not leaving," I say.

"You just don't understand. We can handle this. This is a rescue mission for Cas right now," Dean huffs.

"I know. He is my friend and I am going to help save him whether you like it or not," I reply stubbornly.

"You can help with Cas after we get him, but there is no way in hell that you are going to go on the mission with us. It's too dangerous. We need you to be somewhere where you can help but not get hurt," Sam compromises.

"Fine. Where am I supposed to go while you guys go out on a suicide mission?" I sigh.

"Ruby will take you to Bobby's. You need to stay there while we get Castiel. We'll take him back to Bobby's afterward, and there you go. Problem solved, okay?" Sam asks.

"Agreed," I nod.

Great.
