Today is finally the day of the dance and the butterflies are flying around way faster in my belly than ever before.

Stiles and I have been texting back and forth for about a week now but we still haven't had a real, in person conversation. Which makes me more nervous to see him.

Since Stiles does live right next to me, he said he'll drive us.

Currently, I'm burning my hair off.

Not literally.

But it feels like it.

I wrap my hair around the curling iron and yelp when my fingers touch the barrel.

"Need help?" I look and see my mom standing in the doorway.

I sigh. "Yes please." She then starts working her magic on my hair. "Could I ask for another favor?"

Her lips turn upwards. "Want me to do your makeup, too?"

"You know me so well." I laugh.

It takes about an hour and a half for my mom to finish my hair and makeup and to help me zip up my dress when we hear a knock on the door.

I frantically look at my mom and she grins. "You look great. Don't be nervous." She says, walking over to the door.

Yeah. Thanks for that awesome advice.

I run my fingers through my hair nervously as my mom opens the door.

Stiles is wearing a tux with a pink tie and is carrying a box in his hand. He looks up and greets my mom, the latter letting him in.

He finally looks over at me and catches my eyes. I look down quickly and feel heat rushing to my face.

"Woah y/n. You look, umm-" He clears his throat. "You look nice."

I look back up at him. "You too." I quietly say and tuck my hair behind my ears.

"Okay! Pictures!" Mom yells as she brings out her phone and demands Stiles to put the beautiful pink corsage on my wrist.

He takes the corsage out of the box and sets the box down on the coffee table. I hold out my wrist and I can see his hands shaking as he slips it on.

It's good to know I'm not the only one who's nervous.

I give him a reassuring smile and look towards my mom.

"Okay. Do the classic prom pose." She demands and we get into position, his hands on my hips.

I can feel my face get even redder, if that's possible.

"Okay." She brings down her phone and has a wide grin. "You guys can go now."

We say goodbye to her and head to Stiles's jeep.

When we start heading the way to the school, and awkward silence fills the Jeep.

"I'm sorry that Scott roped you into going as my date." Stiles blurts out.

His comment surprises me. "Oh. It's okay." I smile at him. "I think I just needed a reason to go. I feel like I haven't been having the whole 'high school experience' so this is a first for me."

He smiles back. "Me too."

We get to the school and he hops out first, running over to my side and helping me out.

He holds out his elbow. "Shall we?"

I giggle and slip my arm through his. "We shall."

•••

We are currently sitting at a table on the sides of the gym. I'm fiddling with my dress and Stiles is looking around at the messy teens. A slow song then comes on and I internally groan.

Please don't ask me to dance.

Stiles suddenly stands up and holds out his hand to me.

Awesome.

"Would you like to dance?" He asks.

I clear my throat. "Umm. I don't know how." I mutter.

"I'll teach you."

I sigh and set my hand in his palm and he pulls me onto the dance floor. He puts my arms around his neck and rests his hands on my hips.

At first, it's awkward and we're both stiff but as seconds go along, we begin to relax and just sway to the music.

I realize I'm spacing out and feel Stiles' eyes on me. I look up.

"You're really pretty." He whispers and my cheeks flare up.

"You too." My eyes widen. "Umm... I mean... handsome. Not saying you aren't pretty! I'm just-"

"Y/n." Stiles softly laughs. "I know what you're trying to say."

"Sorry." I smile.

"Stiles." I hear a voice and we both turn our heads to see Jackson Whittemore. "Have you seen Lydia?"

"No. Isn't she supposed to be with you?" Stiles says, obviously annoyed.

"Yeah but I left for a couple minutes, came back, and she was gone." I smell alcohol and try not to gag. Of course he's drunk.

Stiles sighs and looks down at me. "I'm sorry but I have to go look for her." He has a weird look in his eyes.

I let my arms go to my sides and try to hide my disappointment. I know Stiles has had a crush on Lydia since 'the freaking third grade'. It's obvious. And Scott did tell me.

"It's okay. Go ahead." I softly smile.

"Thanks. I'll be back in a couple minutes." He runs off and I head back towards my chair.

Well, the dance ended and Stiles never came back. I called him three times and they all led to voicemail. I had to call my mom to come pick me up.

When she pulls up to the school, I wipe away my tears and get into the car.

"Oh honey." She quietly says. "I doubt he abandoned you on purpose."

"He went to find Lydia. No wonder he didn't come back for me when he could have her instead." I angrily wipe another tear.

"Y/n-"

"Can we please just go home so I can take all this off?" I snap but immediately regret it when she nods.
