Davis's pov
"Shit" I cursed under my breath. I watched Karen step into the garage. She looked around at the unfamiliar faces and asked
"Mum? Dad? I asked a question. What the heck is going on here?" Karen voice was filled with confusion. She gasped when she saw the guns on the floor. Karen shakingly pointed at them, her voice laced with fear
"What are those guns doing there? How did they get there? Who put them there?" Karen's voice quivered. Helen sighed with irritation and snapped at Karen
"Stop acting like a little bitch. You know what those are" I scowled at Helen. Why is she trying to make things more difficult for me?
Karen snapped her gaze to her mother, hurt clear in her eyes. Her mouth was parted in shock when she realized Helen was holding a gun to Maria's head. Karen looked at me, her eyes pleading for me to explain it to her. I took a deep breath and said
"Sweetheart this - - -" I was suddenly cut off by Helen who snapped.
"Oh shut up. Karen this is your father's mistress and his son."
I turned my furious gaze to Helen and glared at her. She looked unconcerned and flipped her hair. Karen looked at me, her eyes with tears and I hurried to explain things to her.
"No sweetheart, she isn't my mistress. She's my ex girlfriend and that's my son. I had them before I even met your mum" my voice was soft, pleading for her to believe me. Karen nodded and sent me a look which meant we'll talk later. I smiled at her, grateful for her trust. I turned back to Helen and said
"You see Karen did not believe your lies. Just let Maria and her daughter go and we can settle this amicably." I tried reasoning with her. Helen glared at Karen with animosity. Karen flinched under her glare and shifted till she was behind me.
"No way. I gave you the options Davis. You can either come after me and let Maria die, or you can save Maria and let me go. Choose your choice" Helen snapped at me. Karen gasped at the hatred in her mother's voice. Poor child, she never knew Helen was this evil. I turned to Felix who has been unusually quiet. His eyes was sad. I knew he wanted Helen to pay but he couldn't risk his mum.
"I choose maria" I said to Helen confidently. Maria's eyes widened as she looked at me. I smiled at her reassuringly. Everything will be okay, I wanted to promise her. But I couldn't do it. Not when I wasn't certain. Helen laughed out maniacally. She looked victorious and I hated to admit, she had won this round. Helen turned to Karen and said, her voice suddenly soft
"Karen darling you'll come with mum, won't you? Abandon your miserable father and join me. You'll have everything you want. Power, money, prestige. What do you say?"
I turned to Karen, my heart in my throat. If she left with Helen, I might never see her again. Apart from that, she'll ruin her life. Though she'll have everything Helen said but with those things come pain and sorrow. I definitely don't want those for her. Karen looked at me, her eyes calculating. I could tell she was weighing the pros and constantly of following Helen. Karen turned back to Helen and with a surprisingly strong voice, she replied
"No, I don't want that kind of life. A life where I'll always have to look over my shoulders. I want a simple life with my parents. Please mum, stop all these. I'm sure you and dad can resolve this" Karen pleaded with Helen. I forced myself not to scoff at that last part about resolving this. There's no resolving with Helen. The only way for peace to reign will be for one of us to die. Karen's plea seemed to only anger Helen the more. Her face turned a ugly shade of purple and I thought she was going to burst from anger. That is of strange doesn't start coming out of her ears first. Helen let out a shriek made everyone take a step back in fear. She turned her furious gaze to Karen and yelled
"You ungrateful bitch! I carried you for nine months, beater those awful pains giving birth to you, clothe you, fed you, provide for you and this is how you repay me? By taking sides with your weakling of a father? Fine. It's your choice. Die with him! Die with them all!" Helen screamed and took out a remote control out of her pocket. With her gun still pointed at Maria's, I watched the timer on the bomb on Maria's waist began to read from twenty seconds. I gasped and looked up in time to see Helen throw the remote on the ground, effectively destroying it. She took off running out of the garage leaving Karen, Felix, a still tied Maria and I alone with the bomb.
_____________________________Karen's pov
I watched my mom run out of the garage in shock. Please tell me she didn't just do what I think she did. I turned back to see my dad's panicked face. I guess she really did it. Never did I imagine my mum to be so cruel to attach a ticking bomb to a fellow human. The reality of the situation hit me with a full force. I am going to die! And my mum is responsible for my death. I began hyperventilating. I felt someone patting my back and whispering to me
"Breathe damn it! Breathe slowly" the voice snapped at me. Somehow I found it soothing enough to obey and began breathing slowly. Soon my breath became normal and I looked up at my savior. It was my supposed brother. When he realized I was okay, he turned away and started talking with dad. I couldn't hear what they were arguing. I heard my dad's voice snap at my supposed brother.
"Get Karen out of here, I'll get your mum out and meet up with you" Dad ordered my brother. He looked conflicted, probably not wanting to leave his mum in danger. My dad looked impatient and to me, he had every right to. I mean, we are standing in a room with a freaking ticking bomb. Who would be calm in a situation like this?
"Trust me! Now go!" Dad yelled at my supposed brother who immediately threw me on his shoulder and began running. Immediately we got out of the garage then did I realize dad was still in there. I began to struggle against him, trying to stand and run back to my dad. I didn't even notice the tears running down my cheeks, I was too hysterical.
"Dad! Dad! Get out of there!" I screamed. I pounded on my supposed brother's back trying to get him to put me down but it was like pounding on a rock. Absolutely no effect. He just kept running, taking me farther away from my dad.
Suddenly he stopped and dropped me. I looked around to realize we were a safe distance away from my house. I looked at my supposed brother. He was pacing, his fingers running through his hair in agitation.
"He is alright! He promised he'll get her out! They'll be fine" He kept whispering. I thought he was talking to me till I realized he was just assuring himself. He was just as scared as I am. His mother and father was in there. In my case, my mother got out even though she's a lunatic. I looked at my wristwatch. There's no more time. The bomb can go off any minute now. I turned to my supposed brother.
"We can't just stay here. We have to do something. The time is almost up."
I said to him. He looked conflicted for a moment before he took me hand and began to run towards the garage. We were halfway there when chaos broke out. The bomb went off setting the garage on fire. The force of it was so strong it knocked me back. I flew backwards and hit my head on a hard object. I began to feel dizzy. I turned to my right to see my supposed brother lying unconscious few meters away from me. I tried to crawl towards him but I couldn't. I finally let go and went unconscious.I did my best to explain this chapter as much as I could. If it's still not clear, don't worry I'll edit it soon.
