I breathe it all in, the music, the atmosphere, the first party of the Senior year.
It had a familiar feeling but it was different all at the same time. Cole and I step out of my Range Rover, I was wearing all black, a black t-shirt, black jeans and black Doc Martins.
I had decided to park outside of the gated entrance so that my car wouldn't be trashed by the drunken masses and that we would probably end up crashing here for the night.
We both walked towards the gate and I pressed the buzzer. Our grey washed faces popped up on the gate camera followed by the heavy scraping sound as the gate opened. I paused briefly taking in the settings. Taylor's parents had gone out of town with some of the people from the golf club, it was members only retreat.
Taylor's parents were the first parents to go out of town so naturally, that summons a party whether the host agrees or not. Taylor was popular, very popular and her parents were wealthy. Meaning this party would be crammed full of people who either knew Taylor or wanted to know Taylor.
The music this year was louder, the mess was already building, red cups scattered on the floor, random coats, bags, and shoes left everywhere. Cole tapped me and pointed at four girls, I instantly recognized one girl in particular, Evie.
She was in a tight black leather dress and black heels. She looked unreal. She deserved her own red carpet she looked that good. Much to my surprise she turned acknowledging us with a smile before turning to talk to some other guys, who had just arrived.
The girls she was initially standing with had gone inside. The only flaw that Evie Williams had was that she had befriended three of the most irritating girls in school, Sage, Anna, and Casey. I don't know why or under what authority I thought I knew Evie, but she wasn't like them. I just knew I could tell.
She had something they did not, she was something they were not. I could tell there was more to her than what it looked like. Those girls were popular and wealthy as well but none of them were like Evie.
I admit that I am not the best person; I have no reason and no pedestal to stand on. I haven't been the nicest person nor have I been the most admirable guy in school.
I had no doubt in mind that they have already spoken badly about me to Evie. But, I didn't want Evie to think badly of me, I didn't want her to see me through their filter.
She was already the most popular girls in school. We were all infatuated with her, the hallways were full of excited whispers when she walked through them, she was different. But, one problem, she couldn't stand me.
Every time I passed her in the hallways I could feel her rolling her eyes as though my presence irritated her. I played it off as though it didn't bother me, but it did.
I had never felt so unqualified to be around a girl before. Most girls surround me and Cole as though we are Gods and in the past I have acted that way. I haven't been the kindest and to be honest I wondered if I will every change.
Cole tapped me on the shoulder again, dragging me out of my thoughts and causing me to finally look away from Evie I turned my body towards him giving him my full attention.
"Do you think I have shot with Evie?"
He asked me seriously, his voice slightly whispering as though what he was asking was top secret. I rolled my eyes internally. I wanted to tell him to back off and that he had no chance.
"Of course brother but. "
I paused not knowing how to continue my sentence without sounding desperate. I coughed clearing my throat.
