~Kate's P.O.V~
I snapped the lid onto the small coffee and placed it onto the counter towards the brunette haired woman. I smiled as she handed me her money and I clicked open the cash register and slid it in. I handed her back some change and watched the lady walk over the door. She stood there for a minute before a man walked up to her and leaned down to place a quick kiss on the ladies lips. She laughed a little before they both interlocked hands and walked out of the shop. A small part of me broke at the sight. I wanted to look away but I couldn't. How happy the supposed couple looked and how you could feel how love between them. I couldn't help but feel a bit jealous of lady and the man. I thought back to Niall and I and wondered why he would do it. I could be overacting on this whole subject and he isn't cheating on me but I can't get his words out of my head.
'I love you Brooke'
I shivered at the thought. Maybe it is a family member that he hasn't seen in a while. Maybe it was an old friend that he used to be really close to then moved away. But then again, he was the one who had set up the dinner and he din't even eat with me.
"Kate, are you sure your ok? You keep slipping into this little world" Audrey asked waving her hand in front of my face.
"Uh ya I'm fine don't worry" I replied shaking my head lightly and sending her a smile.
"Ok what ever you say" She laughed jumping up onto the counter.
"A, get down what if Max sees you?" I whisper shouted looking around to make sure boss man was no where to be seen. We both made eye contact and a smile crept onto our faces.
"No fooling around, sitting on the counter, or drinking the coffee until your shift is over. It's not pleasant for the costumers" We both said in our deepest voices trying our best to mock Max's special speech.
"Haha very funny girls" The deep voice replied from the back room. We both quickly shot our heads to look at each other and bursted out laughing.
"You should really get down" I said as my breathing came back to normal.
"It's not like anyone is here, I swear we have had like 10 costumers in the past 2 hours" She groaned sliding off the counter and fixing her apron. I laughed and walked back to the coffee machines. A few minutes of picking at the machines and aimlessly wiping down the back counters I heard Audrey yell back.
"Kate! You have a costumer!" She yelled back.
"Why can't you get it you up there?" I laughed tossing the dirty rag into the small sink.
"Because I lazy and you need to get this costumer!" She yelled again before I gave in and walked up front. I froze when I saw the blonde haired blue eyed boy I have been trying to forget about for the past 24 hours.
"You ok there?'' Audrey whispered walking past me obviously confused by my actions.
"Ya ya I'm fine can you go finish cleaning the back" I replied not loosing eye contact with Niall once.
"Sure thing Max" She replied sticking her tongue out at me. I returned the favor before she disappeared out back leaving Niall and I semi alone.
"Welcome to Starbucks, how can I help you?" I asked trying to avoid the conversation I knew he came here to start.
"Kate, we need to talk" He replied basically begging me by the look in his eyes.
"I'm sorry but you need to order something" I replied sending him a fake smile. He sighed and pulled at the tips of his hair before looking back at me.
"Fine, I will have Clover brewed coffee with 2 sugars" I said before pulling out his wallet. He really wants to talk. I sighed and walked back to the machines. After quickly pouring the coffee, I poured in the sugars and popped the top on. I walked back out front and placed the coffee on the counter in front of him. He handed me his money and I put it in the cash register then handed him the change.
"So now can we talk?" He asked.
"Fine, but we have to make it quick. Max is out back" I replied moving from behind the counter and following him over to tables.
"Now Kate listen to me" He said placing the coffee on the table.
"Niall I don't want an explanation, please" I said sitting down across from him. He gave me a confused look before I continued.
"Don't give some crazy explanation for what happened last night. I think we are both better off with me not knowing the full story. Just tell me one thing" I said taking a breathe scared of what his next answer would be.
"Are you cheating on me?" I choked out, my heart stopping for a quick second.
"No no no no no no no no-" Niall replied shaking his head then looking me straight in the eyes.
"I am defiantly not cheating on you Kate, no" He said reassuring me. I let out a small laugh and shook my head.
"Whats so funny?" He asked.
"I seriously thought you were cheating on me with that Brooke girl, I'm so stupid" I laughed in defeat.
"Trust me, I am not dating Brooke she-" He said but I cut him off not wanting to know what he was going to say next.
"Eh eh no explanation" I said standing from the table. Niall grabbed his coffee and took a sip before following me.
"So please say we are all good?" He asked walking closer to me so there was only a small gap between us.
"We're all good" I quietly replied smiling up at him. Niall leaned down and placed a quick yet nice kiss on my lips. I pulled away and placed our foreheads together.
"I'm at work Horan" I whispered looking into his eyes.
"So..." He replied a small smirk growing on his lips.
"Oh my god" I laughed pushing his chest away from me allowing a bit of his coffee to spill over the top and onto his hand.
"Do you enjoy spilling hot things on me?" He laughed wiping his hand on his shirt.
"Yes I do, now I have to get back to work" I said fixing my apron and walking over to the ordering counter.
"I will pick you up, my treat" He said walking over to the door.
"5 o'clock" I yelled. He sent me a thumbs up with his free hand and walked out of the shop. I ran my hand through my hair and sighed. A part of me felt like that happened to easily but I don't want to complicate things anymore. I looked around then felt a tap on my shoulder. I looked back to see Audrey holding 2 iced mocha coffees a big smile on her face.
"Were going to get fired I swear" I laughed taking one of the coffees.
