After that apology Devina and I shared, we all sat down and had a very serious talk. About how we need to go now that we have a destination. Tonight was going to be the last night that we stay here. The rest of the day was going to be looking for resources. I was going to be with Devina while Dakota and the twins are going off by themselves.
Quite honestly, it was awkward, with my thoughts still lingering in the back of my mind. I had to let it go, I knew that I had to. We both apologized and now we are going to move on from the subject. I pushed the thoughts into the back of my mind, deciding to ignore them for now.
"So what'd you do that day while you were...away?" She broke the silence with a question.
"This is gonna sound weird, but I just watched. I wanted to know what would happen, how you guys would react. Focused on nature too, I really just took some time for myself...hah...that is so selfish." I responded while shaking my head in disbelief.
"Honestly, I think I would do the same in your situation." She let out a sigh, "But I can't blame you, if the roles were reversed then I know would do the same."
"Yeah..."
I didn't know exactly what we were looking out for until Devina started picking up twigs. She nodded in my direction, silently telling me to do the same. I followed her lead, looking for the twigs that looked like the others that she was picking up. I was still unsure what these were going to be used for, but she was the oldest and always seemed so sure of herself.
Confidence, that is what got her to put all of our trust in her. Maybe if I had gotten a little more confidence then they would be surer of me. Why am I even thinking of this? I need to focus on getting what we need. Always lost in my own world. I resumed the task back on hand, looking for twigs that I still had no idea about. But the moment I had tilted my head my hair blocked my sight.
"Here, Hailey." I looked at her with confusion as she gently grabbed my hair. She stood behind me lifting my hair. I could feel her twisting it and pulling it up. "Does this hurt?" She tugged on my hair a little, I assumed to tighten whatever she was doing.
"No, not at all," I replied with a smile, even though I knew that she couldn't see my face.
After feeling a couple more tugs, twists, and pulls I felt that her hands weren't there so I turned around to face her, and when I did I realize how much my hair would get in my way. The feeling of my hair grazing against my waist when I turned around wasn't there. I could see easier too, stray strands of hair weren't in my eyes any longer.
"Is that better?" She asked, but with a hint of nervousness in her voice.
"Yes, it's a lot better. More comfortable too, it'll be easier to do things without having to worry about my hair." I reassured her, "Thank you."
She chuckled, "It's nothing. Even though it's a little messy, it still looks good."
I have her a nod and we continued our search. After a few more minutes the older girl had sat down under a tree that provided shade. Devina crossed her legs and put all the sticks into a pile. Patting the soft patch of grass next to her, she was signaling for me to take a seat next to her, and I happily obliged.
Devina took all the slivers of wood that I have been carrying in my arms and placed them in the pile that she had created from her own. I watched in curiosity as she held the twigs and her ability caused them to twist and form into sturdy yet bendable sticks. She seemed to manipulate them to make a few more baskets and small bowl-shaped shapes. When she had created the general shape of theses, she ran her fingers over the twigs smoothing them so there is no longer any sharp edges or holes. It was completely smoothed over, she had just made a wooden bowl.
