Small but Strong

"Okay..." I started, "This can't be good." Looking at the filth covered needles laying next to the small packets.

I bent down, tempted to touch the needles but quickly retracted my hand, asking myself what in the world I was thinking. But I was just simply curious as to why there would be needles in an abandoned apartment. Then my eyes traveled to the empty food cups, two and two just connected in my mind.

Someone must be living here, or at least was here recently. Very recently. Someone could have seen us, I need to definitely tell Devina about this. I stepped back, thinking about whether I should continue to the window or go back the way I came. My head snapped back and forth, weighing the options at hand. Yeah, I'm not going back the way I came. I could just go down the hallway to see if there's anything else, but I'd rather not make any other discoveries.

"Out the window, I guess." I sighed.

Deciding that the window would be the best way to go about this, I carefully stepped over the mattress, making sure not to touch anything. Trying to leave as little evidence as possible that I was here. I didn't want anyone to know if they came back any sooner, I would be in big trouble, I would put all of us in more danger than we already were in. Who knows who could be doing this here and when they would come back?

I made my way towards the window carefully and trying to be as silent as I possibly can. There was trash everywhere, whether it be from the previous owners or from the person who paid their visits here; and it didn't leave the best scent. But how it smelled didn't matter, at least it wasn't as bad as the decaying animal beneath me.

Once I got to the shattered window, I looked below. A sigh of relief left me as I saw Dakota, sitting in the grass using his powers to make the overgrown grass blow in different directions. I stuck my head out, looking to see how far from the ground I was and what would be the safest option; if I even did have options.

I might just have to say 'screw it' and jump, but that wasn't exactly something that I wanted to do. I swatted the remaining glass and put my hands on it, leaning my whole upper body out of the window. Dakota seemed to have noticed me because he looked up at me and gasped, smiling and waving; a shine in his eyes that I could see even from up here.

Smiling and closing my eyes, I gave him a small wave. "Dakota!" I yelled just loud enough for him to hear me, "Is there any way you could get me down?" He could control the wind, right? So is it a possibility for him to manipulate it somehow to get me down? That wouldn't be asking too much, would it be?

His hands stopped their graceful movements and the grass below them stopped the motion it was going through. The small blonde looked up at me with eyes that showed curiosity, he was also eager to know if he was going to be able to handle such a task. He looked down at the ground for a moment, then looked back up at me with a smile that pushed his eyes closed.

"I-I can try!" He stuttered while standing up.

The boy looked at me with a determined face as half of my body still hung out the window. I didn't know what to expect, and I don't think that he knew what to do or what to expect either. Slowly lifting his hands in the air towards me with a concentrated face, the wind started to move according to his will.

"Maybe this is too much on him..." I muttered as I watched his eyebrows furrow.

Dakota made eye contact with me, "Hailey! Step out the window...!" He shouted just loud enough for me to hear. Strangely, it seemed as if his voice carried throughout the wind as it traveled within the breeze.

I quickly ducked back into the building and swiped off any glass shards that were on the edge, I was only wearing soot-covered socks and I doubt that will do much to protect my skin from anything sharp. Once I stepped on it, my heartbeat started to pick up. This could go very wrong and I could fall, but I need to trust him.
