In Hiding

My hands and knees were covered in dirt, and I had a trembling Dakota beside me. We crawled slowly, kept in the shadows. I could hear my heart pounding, and I'm sure the others could hear it too. Long blonde hair dragged against the ground, gathering twigs and wigs. Oh, that is so going to be impossible to get out later on.

I put one arm around Dakota, trying to reassure him. Vale was behind us, Aiden and Devina were in front of us. We stuck as close as we could to trees and dragging our bodies on the rough ground, getting scraped all over. Did they have any idea as to where we were going? Or what our next move was?

I kept looking back at Vale, to see how he was reacting. His blue eyes showed nothing but worry. We have to keep going, no matter what. Stay hidden, at all costs. But most importantly, we have to stick together. I looked up ahead, to see Devina hurriedly running her fingers up blades of grass, making them look taller and thicker for more coverage.

The sun was slowly falling as this was happening. It felt like we were doing this for days, but it had only been a few minutes of this. The sun was falling, which meant that the helicopter was going to shine that light down, searching for us. We would be easier to spot with the light, but we keep hidden in the shadows.

As we were on the move we were loud footsteps coming our way. We immediately pushed ourselves against the trees and hid under the bushes, trying to be as quiet as we could be. I saw Dakota open his mouth, and I threw my hand over it. He looked at me with fear in his eyes, fear that made my soul shiver.

Aiden was next to me, holding my hand, seeing the clear fear and panic running through my body. I took deep breaths, reminding myself that as long as we are hidden we are alright. The little body shaking next to me had warm tears falling down his face from that bright green eyes. I slowly lowered my hand from his lips and gave him a reassuring nod that we will be alright.

I nodded my head towards the tree that was behind up, giving him a sign to pay attention to something else. His eyes wandered, looking at the pureness of nature and everything it gives to us. The different colors and shapes of the trees, and what seemed like little balls of light danced around. This would be perfect if 'they' weren't here.

I looked back at the others, and I realized that I still happened to have Vale's shirt on. With night falling, I'd give him back his shirt due to the lower temperatures, but we couldn't risk the movement. Aiden was still holding my hand, and I held him back. Those eyes of his started to turn red, and I could tell he was ready to explode and attack. But if he did, it would reveal our spot, putting us all in extreme danger.

Paying my attention back towards the, what, soldiers? Their thick black leather boots left patterns in the once soft ground. The seemed so destructive, and with every step, it felt as if the beauty left more and more. Birds and other woodland creatures scattered, I wish we could join them.

I noticed Devina was pressing her middle and pointer fingers hard into the ground, the tips of them facing towards the soldiers. Why was she doing this? No idea. She had an intense look on her face and then I saw a thick vine emerge from the ground, but made to look natural as if it was already there. Some unlucky guy tripped and fell, causing the rest of them to give them dirty looks.

"Oh come on, Jacob! Watch where you're going, dumbass!" A bigger guy shouted at him.

"It was an accident! I didn't see it, it wasn't there before!" The younger man defended himself.

"Accident my ass! Things just don't appear! You're the only one who had to trip and throw us all off balance!"

Oh sheesh, they sure were pretty hard on the boy. He seemed to be younger compared to the rest of them. I looked at Devina and she looked back at me, we both shared a smirk.

"I'm sorry, okay? Can you just stop yelling in case they can hear us and run?"

The bigger male made a 'hmph' sound and continued, a couple of stares were pointed at the younger man. Little did they know that we heard and watched it all. In fact, we were the cause. I almost felt bad. Almost. I ruffled his hair and saw a smile from him from the scene that we had just witnessed. Everything was going to be alright. We can wait, but we can't stay in one spot forever. Who knew how long they were going to pass, and where they were going?

After about an hour of this, we all quietly decided to move, into the bushes and just not beside them. Yes, we got scratches from sharp thorns and sticks tearing our skin, but we were slowly getting away from the situation.
