And So It Starts

Shining lights, tall buildings, and people. So many people, was it possible for so many to be gathered in one place? Is there more than this? I looked around and realized how many different people there were. Some were dressed in clothes that looked clean, and fresh, while others were sitting with signs. I tried to read what was written on them but I couldn't see quite well from where I was.

We watched in amazement, trying to take everything in. Is this real? Is this what cities really looked like? How was this possible? I looked over to Dakota and seen that his eyes were glimmering in absolute excitement. Everyone's eyes were but now came the hardest part. Where do we go? Then it was like Dakota could read my mind.

"Devina, what do we do now?" A high-pitched voice questioned.

"Well, we should probably move from our spot." She answered.

"And what? Go out there looking like this?" Chimed in Aiden, as he motioned to himself.

He was right, were we supposed to go out there covered in filth? It would be clear that we were out of place and that would only draw unnecessary attention to us. Devina stood up and took a few steps forward, her bare feet landing on the rough pavement. People looked but she ignored their stares and motioned for us to do the same.

Dakota shyly took a step out of our hidden area and made his way to where Devina was. Once he emerged out into the open and into the public eye, a smile graced his thin, pale face. Sunlight hit his skin, and he looked at this new world with wonder and amazement. He looked at us and waved for us to unveil ourselves.

Next, it was our turn. Aiden was first, he took a step into the open, and then looked towards me while reaching his hand out. I placed my hand into his and he pulled me into the open. I could hear my heart racing in my ears as I was now exposed to everything around me. Vale was the last to step out.

We caught the attention of a few onlookers, but that didn't matter right now. What mattered was that we found what we have been looking for; a city. Everything looked so different, everyone was different. Dakota suddenly grabbed my hand.

"Hailey... there are so many things here." The small boy said while gripping my hand.

"I know...isn't it a lot?" I responded, giving him a warm smile.

"Yes...it's very pretty here." He said with a smile back.

"We need to find a place to stay, Devina." Vale suddenly commented.

"Yes, I know we do. But let's just take in our surroundings first." Devina looked around, chocolate orbs scanning everything, absorbing every detail.

I could hear my heartbeat in my ears, whether it was from nervousness or excitement that was unknown to me. We received odd stares from many types of people, this in itself was enough to make anyone panic. My barefoot started to shake and tap against the grainy ground. It was only now that I realized how we were dressed. Half of our clothes were torn or lost, we were unhygienic and just looked like an overall mess.

Dakota clung onto my hand, and we all stood close to each other. I just I could crawl up into Devina's mind to see what was going through it, and what the plan from here out. We all wore concerned yet entertained faces. There was so much to take in, and I had no idea how we were going to get used to this.

"First things first, we need to find a place where we can stay, a hideout of sorts. A place we can stay that nobody can find. After that we should try to find new clothes, we can worry about washing up some other time. By the looks of this place, it doesn't seem very sorted out so we should have no problem with finding anything." Devina planned while stealthily making her way behind a building nearby.
