On the Go

Devina woke us up while the sun was barely showing, we need as much daylight as possible. Aiden was obnoxiously loud when we woke up, and the left side of his face was red from him sleeping on it the whole night on the hard ground. Vale's hand was over his mouth as he quietly yawned, and the other was up in the air, stretching.

The little boy next to me was still snoozing, and I gently shook him awake. He rubbed his green orbs and looked up at me with a tired look. Oh gosh, this little kid is a charmer. I smiled at him as he smiled at me back. His blonde hair was starting to get long, I looked around and everyone's was getting longer too.

"Come on, we're leaving," I informed him, and a light lit up in his eyes. A grin fell upon my lips, and I knew that he basically had control over my emotions. I felt connected to him like it was my job to protect him always.

"You guys ready, we need to go and figure our way." Devina hurried us while exiting the cave for the last time.

"Yeah, we are." I stood up and took the small pale hand into mine, and walked out of the cavity that was our home. Once we were out, I looked back and smiled.

Aiden strolled next to me and Dakota, helping himself to Dakota's and I little space. "Hey Dakota, if you get tired just ask me and I'll give you a piggyback ride okay?" He offered with a smile. Everyone was smiling today, we made our making our way to our new home. "Hailey, you too." Aiden chuckled.

"Nah, I think I'll pass." We were both gently laughing now. Vale who was in front of us walking with Devina looked over his shoulder to see what was going on. I gave him a little wave, and he slightly lifted his hand in response.

The sky was slowly lighting up as the sun made its way more and more visible. Clouds above us danced their way across the sky while the forest continued its own cycle. I sighed, not in sadness but thinking of what could be ahead of us. Looking down, I felt something sweet in my mouth. I looked up in surprise, Aiden had just stuck a berry in my mouth. Devina and Vale carried the baskets, and he seemed to have snuck one.

"Shhh." He grinned while putting his finger to his lips.

I chewed feeling the explosion of the berry in my mouth and smirked at him. Thanks. I mouthed to him so the others didn't hear.

"Aiden, I already told you to not take anything from the baskets." Vale disciplined his twin, but not even looking back at us.

"We've been caught!" Aiden exclaimed, but Devina turned around giving him a glare to shut him up. But before we knew it we were all gently laughing. Aiden always knew how to lighten up the situation.

"Pfft. You're so stupid sometimes, ya know that?" I joked. Dakota pulled on my hand and told me to watch my language and that stupid is a bad word and that I need to apologize, so I nodded promising not to do it again. "Thank you, Aiden. For stealing me a berry and I'm sorry for calling you names."

"Yeah, you better watch it shorty." He poked my cheek and I puffed them out.

"You're just freakishly tall." I retorted.

"Mhm, sure." He looked forward continuing to walk, ending the conversation.

Deciding to pay attention to Dakota, I noticed that he was no longer walking; he was skipping along. I really hope that we do get to a city or whatever it's called soon, we all could benefit from it in so many ways. Seeing what Devina was fantasizing about, I now knew why she was willing to take the risk by being in the public.

We have all lost a lot of weight, grown longer hair, got tired and dirty. But most importantly we grew closer together. Before I had met them, I had no idea I even had powers. All I remember is sitting in that bland room, counting days. I could've been there longer, and I didn't even know what I was counting days from. Thinking of that brought up memories I didn't want to think about. All that matters is the present, the past has been decided and we can't change that.

A gust of wind blew by, and Dakota giggled when it did while pulling his hand from mine. I looked at him raising one eyebrow, that's when I realized that his hands were cupped together like he captured something. He let out a giggle and released his right hand and bent down to grab a handful of dirt. What was this kid up to now?

Dakota opened his left hand, palm up. He dropped the dirt onto his hand and raised his left hand a couple of inches above the right. Seconds later, the soil started to lift and twirl, as if caught in its own little tornado. He beamed in amazement and was clearly proud of what he was able to create so easily. "Bomp!" The boy smashed his hands together, and at once the creation was nothing but another handful of plain dirt.

I could barely control anything I do, and this single little kid could do what he wanted at will. Would I ever be able to control my abilities on my own? Oh well, only time could tell. Dakota was doing his own little tricks to pass the time, and I looked at Aiden.

The older male looked back at me, and he stuck his tongue out. I smirked at this action and he lifted his hand close to my face, then pulled it back. Looking at him in curiosity at why he had done that, his hand burst into flames. "Kabloom! Magiiiiiiiiic!" He chuckled. This weirdo is so silly sometimes, actually, no that's a lie. Most of the time.

I wanted to test if I could do something, then I thought of the time when Vale had touched hand and I gained his ability for a short amount of time. "Aiden, touch my hand!" He looked at me in confusion but did as I told him. Closing my eyes, I imagined what he could do but that I could also do it myself. My arms went numb and traveled all the way down to my hands.

Opening my eyes, I saw that hand had just done what Aiden had done. My hand was in flames, and instinctively I shook my hand to stop the fire, but I realized that I had created it and it wouldn't hurt me. Oh, boy, was that was embarrassing. Aiden and Dakota looked at me in complete amazement, both presenting a face of wonder. I also was confused, but I guess that this is the one thing that I figured out how to control it.

"Woahhhhh! That is so cool, Hailey! How did you do it?" Aiden exclaimed in excitement, causing the two in front of us to check out the commotion.

"Hailey? Did you just do that?" Vale calmly asked, but the others all wore a face of shock.

"Yeah... remember when you touched my hand and I could do the same things that you can do?" He questioned me.

"Yes I do, why?" I answered.

"Aiden, try to do what she's doing." Vale instructed his twin.

The other twin made a face that said, 'Don't tell me what to do.' But he still complied anyways. After a few moments of fierce concentration, his hand could only produce small sparks. His face quickly turned into a look of despair. I felt bad for that, but as far as we know so far is that it only lasts for at most a day.

"Hailey, can you stop using the flames?" Vale asked using a completely different tone of voice with me than his brother.

"I can try." I closed my eyes once more and felt the numbness course through my veins. When I opened my eyes the flames were no longer there. I smiled in accomplishment.

"We can figure this out later guys, we need to keep moving," Devina said, interrupting the moment.

Vale went back to his spot in front of all of us, while Aiden was staring at me in disbelief. Dakota was jumping up and down, telling me how 'cool' and 'totally awesome' that was that I was able to do that. I was proud of myself for being able to control something like this, was this new? Have I been able to do these kinds of things but I just didn't know? No that isn't reasonable. Devina and Aiden both told me that I didn't have an ability of any sort before I had 'disappeared.' I wondered what I had known, and how they knew me. I mean, it must be some kind of memory loss, right? What was the cause of it if it was memory loss?

I shook my head, dismissing the thoughts for now. Glancing back up at the sun seeing that it has changed position to directly above us. We had been going on for hours with it only seeming like minutes, at least to me. Now that I had realized this, I became thirsty and needing food.

"Hey guys, can we have a little something to eat?" I asked, unsure of what their answers were.

"Wow, you must've read my mind, Hailey!" Aiden rubbed his stomach, "I'm starving!"
