Lexi's P.O.V

I was so happy for Kerri, because I knew how much she regretted hurting Jacob. I just hoped she wasn't as naive as to believe that Jacob was only doing this because he loves her. There must've been some other reason, because as far as I knew, Jacob was not particularly giving. Sure, he was good to his friends and family, but she hurt him. I seriously doubted that he had no other motive. Nevertheless, Kerri was happy right now and so was I.

After she told me, we talked for a bit before she left to go and see Jacob again. Then, despite my happiness, I had to face facts; there was more than one person that would not be at all happy with Kerri's decision. Jayson, for one. Then Anna and Charlie, because everyone knew they had their things for Jacob and Kerri, in that order. And as much as it hurt me to admit it, Adam. I only fully realised today, after Kerri found him. I knew something must've happened before I got there, because after that he was both ecstatic and full of woe all at the same time. To me, it was no secret the way Adam felt about her. It was the same way Jacob and Charlie did; he was absolutely crazy about her. There was just something about Kerri that drove them all round the bend, but I knew out of the three Adam was the one who would never tell her. They were too close now for him to tell her, because he wouldn't want to ruin their friendship.

I had to tell him before he found out from Jacob, because I knew Jacob knew how he felt. I also knew that Jacob didn't like it, and he would try to use this to hurt Adam. I wouldn't let him. For all the things I loved about Jacob, I always felt he was a bit cruel. Just a tiny bit, but nevertheless it was there. Buried inside, deep down.

I walked purposefully to Adam and Clark's room, pounding on the door when I reached it because I knew Adam would be inside. I just hadn't bet that there would be...others there.

"Lexi?" a guys voice asked coldly from the doorway, not opening the door enough for me to see inside and call out to Adam.

"I'm here to see Adam."

"He's busy."

"Jayson, get out of my way," I said brusqely, elbowing him aside and charging into the room.

"Lexi?" Adam asked from his position on the bed, with considerably more warmth than Jayson had. He sat up and beckoned me in, shooting a moody Jayson a look over my shoulder. I heard the door slam as I sat down on the bed next to Adam, then Jayson walked over to the desk and sat down, burying his nose in a book.

"I need to tell you something, Adam," I said quietly, hoping Jayson couldn't hear me.

"What?" Adam asked, turning to face me. I gulped, then looked at the floor. I couldn't see his face when I told him.

"Kerri and Jacob are back together."

I looked up. His face fell, his head falling into his hands.

"How?" he asked in a whisper.

"Just...happened."

"What?" Jayson asked from across the room.

"None of your business!" I cried, standing up to shout at him.

"It is if one of my best friends is making an awful mistake!" he shouted back.

"The mistake was ever letting her go!" I screamed, moving across the room to look him in the eye. I felt a sudden need to protect Kerri, because she was my best friend.

"Oh yeah, it was such an awful mistake to break up with that cheating who-"

"You say one more word and will personally throw you out of that window," Adam said, his voice an ice cold rock. Jayson stopped in mid sentence, shaken by Adam's words. Then, he slowly regained his composure, and asked in a sarcastic tone,

"What, do you like her or something? Is that why you ditched your best friend when he needed you?"

"No," Adam replied, "that's why I stayed by her side when everyone else deserted her. Now get out of my room." Jayson didn't know what to say, so he just glared at Adam before walking out. On his way out the door, he still managed to walk right past me and whisper,

"I still miss you Lex. It's a shame you lost it too."

I was outraged, left speechless by the guy that just a few days ago I was completely in love with. Funny how things like this can change people, and how you see them.

After a minute of silence Adam asked me,

"Is it final?"

There was such desperation in his voice I didn't want to tell him the truth. So all I said was,

"She'll understand. Eventually, she'll realise."

Adam just looked at me, tears in his eyes, and croaked,

"She has to."
