Koalas (Kyle O'Shea)

Chapter 4

"What the hell where you doing? Abducting someone?" Ian said to them, not happy about meeting those people.

"I'm sorry okay? My name is Jared, and this is Wes. We have a doctor, who tries to figure out how to remove the worms from the brains. Wes put down the gun."

Wes did what Jared said, and Kyle and Ian put theirs back as well.

"Are there more of you?" Wes asked.

"No, it's just us."

"We are more. We have safe spot, underground caves." Wes explained. "Jeb wouldn't mind taking in new people."

The three looked at each other before Ian nodded.

"We'll join."

"Great! Do you want to leave the car or take it with you? We'll drive through sand and it'll leave an obvious path to the hideout."

"We could hide it somewhere and pick it up another time?" Ian offered.

They agreed and Ian drove the car away while Kyle and Melody got into the truck after loading what they just raided into the larger vehicle. Kyle numbed his shoulder against Jareds.

"Don't touch her again."

The four sat down and started driving once Ian came back. Wes drove smoothly across the road. Melody fell asleep against Kyle. It was around midnight when they stopped. Wes and Jared got out and put something on the back of the truck to hide their tracks. They the drive to the hideout wasn't as smooth but it didn't take too long to get to the place to hide the vehicle.

Kyle gently woke up Melody and kept holding her hand as the other men led the three newcomers towards the dark tunnel.

"They are back!" A voice yelled. It sounded young and happy.

"Jared!" A boy ran towards Jared hugging him.

"Hey, Jamie. Did you keep everyone in line?"

"Yeah, he did." An older man stepped towards them. His hair was white, so was his beard. Blue eyes looked at the three with curiosity.

"Who are you?"

"I am Ian. This is my brother Kyle and Melody."

"Well, welcome you three come in and meet everyone. Don't be shy."

He lead them towards a kitchen. People were eating bread and soup but as soon as they saw the new ones they stopped and stared. Melody noticed two women behind the counter. A few tables around the room.

"Everyone, these are Ian, Kyle and Melody. They are our new guests."

Everyone nodded. One of the women behind the kitchen counter waved. Melody stepped a bit more towards Kyle.

"Let me show you around my humble abode."

They followed Jeb as he explained everything to them. Jeb took a flashlight and walked towards the first hallway.

"This is the southern tunnel. At the end is our infirmary, Doc works there, so if you have problems go to him. Although, we don't have the means and medication like we used to Doc does his best."

They walked further and entered a large field. Melody was immediately fascinated by it. It was a large field of wheat. She looked up to see mirrors to reflect sun light onto the plants. At this point they faced down wards.

"We grow as much as we can. Everyone has to work here at one point. We use it to bake our own bread. We're quite lucky to have something like this. This way."
