Chapter 13

Another few weeks past and Ian and Melody kept their distance to each other. She knew her loneliness was partly her fault but she didn't want to admit it. Instead she did everything in her own pace. Melody grew gradually used to Wanda, being in the same as room as her, even working side by side without shaking in fear. She was still uncomfortable around the alien girl but by now she was able to eat with everyone else again.

Tonight she sat in the kitchen listening to Wanda talking about the singing world. Melody knew most of the things Wanda talked about.

"Ruth and I already know some of that. But it's interesting to hear it from someone, who actually was there."

Melody agreed. Sure, she knew a lot of facts but Wanda described the place and the songs more vividly than Melody could.

"How?", Wanda asked curiously and Lily nodded to Melody. The alien looked at the human interested.

"When I was still hiding with my brother we tried to blend in. Some of those things would talk to us where we're from. A lot of them told us about the singing world due to my name. So in some places we were just souls living their first life and in some we could pretend to be from the singing world." She explained.

"Don't ask her where her brother is!" Melanie stopped Wanda before the question left her mouth. "Think about it. Why was she so afraid of us? Why is this one of the first time she didn't leave the room when we came here."

"He was taken" Wanda realised.

Wanda nodded and Jamie started asking more questions. Nobody heard the rustling of clothes coming closer until the men stood in the doorway. Jared was the first one to enter the door, right behind him were Aaron and Kyle.

Melody immediately got up and ran into Kyle's arms and hugged him tightly. All the fear and anxiety for him left her body as she took his face into her hands and looked into his beautiful blue eyes.

"Are you alright?", she asked him.

Kyle was shocked at first, seeing the alien sitting among the humans in the kitchen, eating as if she did that all the time while they were raiding. It probably did. He relaxed considerably when Melody was in his arms looking at him with her brown eyes. No reflective ring around her pupil.

He nodded and quickly kissed her before she buried her head in his neck. Heath pushed past Aaron and hugged his wife against him.

"Check their eyes, they must have been taken!"

Jared wasn't happy with the whole situation. He felt as if Jeb betrayed him and now he was ready to forget the fact that it used to be Melanie's body, he wanted to kill that thing.

Kyle supported him, letting go of Melody gently pushing her behind him as they got ready to murder it. Ian pushed between them, his eyes hard and determined, nobody would hurt Wanda. She was innocent!

"You can't hurt her, Jared! Melanie is still alive with Wanda!" Jamie said, trying to beseech Jared. Wanda was his friend now too and he could even talk to Melanie again now.

Jeb defused the tension as best as he could saying, that Jamie had just as much if not more power to decide what would happen to Wanda.

The raiders shook their head, leaving to get washed up. Kyle and Melody went into his and Ian's room. He was exhausted, ready to lay down and sleep but he wasn't prepared to find her stuff missing. Again.

"What happened?" He asked tired, pulling Melody down with him and wrapping his arms around her.

"Ian and I got into a fight. He was angry, probably still is, that I didn't give Wanda a chance. I mean, you saw how protective he was of her." Melody explained.
