Chapter 21

Melody was woken up roughly as Ian shook her awake. She looked up at him tired ready to just kick him away from her until she saw the urgency in his eyes.

"Where is Kyle?" Ian questioned her.

Melody looked around confused. She laid on the bed alone, Kyle was nowhere in sight.

"I don't know. We went to bed last night but now, I don't know. Ian, what's going on?" She was confused. Where would Kyle be?

"Did he say anything last night? About what happened in the infirmary?" Ian pressed the issue, ignoring her question.

"No, not really. The only thing he said is 'we can't go around and abduct people'. Ian, what's going on?"

"Kyle is gone and so is one of the cars."

Kyle was on the way to Jodie. They didn't know how long he would be gone but it would be a few days. Everyone was highly alarmed and Jeb started to tell everyone where to go, if Kyle was caught and the seekers would come into the caves.

Melody felt numb. She was still in denial, no Kyle wouldn't get Jodie, would he? Jodie didn't deserve to be used as a host by a soul, for sure, Melody never wished this upon anyone. But she felt hurt to know her boyfriend, the man she spent the last years with, the man she shared a bed with, left her when he knew he could get his ex-girlfriend back. Kyle was willing to endanger everyone in the caves for Jodie.

Ian was angry. He really liked Melody, of course he had liked Jodie back then, but she was his brother's past, Melody was the present and could be the future. He couldn't believe Kyle was able to leave her behind just like that.

The young woman started to function on auto pilot. She held on to hope that they were wrong, that Kyle wouldn't go to Jodie and bring her back here. So her days went on as normal as they could. It would kill her to over-think it. Instead she decided to wait and trust her boyfriend, that he loved her as much as he always told her.

After the raiders came back, Wanda took out one of the souls. Sadly, the other one woke up and killed himself and the host. But the woman was still unresponsive no matter how hard Wanda tried to wake her up.

Melody was in the kitchen with Trudy, cooking food as Ian entered the room. He looked exhausted but he seemed to find what he was looking for as he sat his eyes on Melody.

"Hey Mel, can you go to the infirmary? The healer is awake and scared, maybe you can help her."

The woman walked through the dark, southern tunnel. The closer she got the clearer she could hear the voice of Doc talking calmly to someone. As she entered the room Melody saw a woman sitting on one of the hospital beds. Both looked up as she entered.

"This is Melody, she's also human, like you and me."

"Hi, how are you feeling?", Melody asked the woman who looked to God unsure.

"I don't know. I feel ok, like myself."

Melody walked closer.

"Are you hungry perhabs?"

On the other side of the cave people were angry. Kyle arrived, and with him a woman with dark hair and reflective eyes. Ian looked at him with hard unforgiving eyes. Everyone shouted at him. Why did you come back? How dare you? Jeb just stood there watching the people as Wanda stepped into the room.

"Wanda, could you please help me out?" Kyle asked her.

Wanda went to him, surprised to see the woman behind his protective stance. Jeb told the angry mob to get lost before paying attention to Kyle and the newcomer.
