The days after Walter' funeral were quiet. Nothing great was going on  just the regular routine.

Melody worked in the kitchen next to Trudy, washed the laundry next to Lily, and made the soap next to Ruth. Kyle an Ian started talking again and the younger brother started to think about moving into another cave.

Ian seemed to be in a better mood every time he was around the alien girl. He wasn't bothered by the reflective eyes only by the Melanie, who was still conscious and in Wanda's head. Melody had a hard time believing this but even Jared seemed to think so.

The older man was more often around the body of his girlfriend. But any time he talked to Wanda he always knew it wasn't Melanie. Oh, how much he missed her. The first days without her he tried to convince himself, she was fine and was gonna be back in a few hours.

When she didn't, he took care of Jamie. It was hard for both of them. Try telling a kid his sister is dead and never coming back. Jared cried the first nights after he was able to bring Jamie to sleep. He did everything to seem strong for the boy.

Melody hadn't seen him in a while, though. She tried to ask Ian about it but he didn't have a clue either. Only when Kyle came to her and told her to come into the infirmary she saw the man again.

There were three unconscious bodies on Doc's beds. Two men and one woman. All of them wore casual clothes nothing out of the ordinary. They looked a bit more healthy than the humans in the cave but that was due to the lack of certain vitamins, protein, and more what they didn't have.

In the room only were few people. Jeb, Doc, Jared, Kyle, and Melody. Doc held his scalpel in his right hand. He already had turned the first body, one of the men, to the side. He looked for the scar before cutting it. Red and silver blood streamed out of the wound. Doc felt a sharp pain in his heart. He had failed again. He killed the worm and the human.

Melody looked away and stepped closer to Kyle as Doc moved to the next one. His hand was already shaking a bit as he cut again. This time there was only read blood. Silver strings reached out of the wound and Doc tried to grab it. He pulled out half the body of the small worm, silver blood stained his hands.

He started crying before he moved on to the last person. Doc shook so badly Jeb walked over to him and encouraged him to do it one last time.

The result was obvious to Melody  before the scalpel touched the skin of the woman. Doc's loud sobs only confirmed her prediction.

Doc sat down on a chair. His scalpel next to the dead woman. Jeb had his hand on Doc's shoulder trying to calm the poor man down. Melody moved away from Kyle to go to Doc. She knelt down in front of him as she tried to help him.

A loud gasp was heard behind them and the humans turned around to see Wanda looking at them in shock. Three of her species laid there on the table, slaughtered and laying in grotesque positions.

"Monsters!"

"Wanda, wait!" Jared tried to follow the disturbed soul but she was gone too fast.

Doc's sobbed louder in pain. Little did they know the extend of their actions. They didnt know Melanie was pushed away. Wanda had finally silenced her.

Melody understood Wanda's pain but she was also pissed at her. It's not like Doc was happy about it, the man was literally crying because of the atrocity he committed. Today he murdered six beings but that wasn't the first time he tried to figure out how to get rid of the alien in the human.

Also, what did Wanda expect the humans to do? Accept their defeat and slowly go instinct? Humans fought for their survival! Melody didn't know about the other planets. Did the bats fight the souls? The dolfins, the dragons, the sea tang, the spiders, the firetasters, the bears?

There were more planets invaded by the souls. They annihilated if they thought the species to be too violent, or destructive. At least that was their motivation for earth, but what did the other planets do?
