-ALEXA POV-
The shrill, incessant ringing of the bell jolted my out of my daze. Grimacing, I picked my head off the table; fervently hoping the lesson would end already. I sighed with relief after hearing my teacher’s airy voice float into my ears.
“Alright, class is dismissed!” Ms. Celine called, and the scraping of chairs killed my ears as I got up from my seat.
Why can’t anyone in this school move chairs quietly! I thought as I trudged to my next class, Spanish.
Seconds later, the one and only Caleb Evans’ walked in towards me, his steps full of confidence. I gave him a once over, and grudgingly admitted that he was good-looking.
“To what do I owe this honour of the great Caleb Evans wanting to meet me? Shouldn’t you be in some sort of – oh shit the meeting!” I had completely forgotten about the meeting today.
Caleb just laughed at me as I rushed not to be late, picking up my jacket and m backpack from its places on my chair.
“Good thing you remembered Alexa. Now, hurry up, you know how Mr. Tyson hates tardiness,” he quipped and I glared at him, walking out of the classroom.
“I’m sorry Mdm. Penelope I have a meeting with the principal!” I called out as I ran out just as my Spanish teacher walked in.
She nodded understandingly and I quickly turned the corner, the sounds of my sneakers on the floor amplifying though the empty hallways. Caleb took no trouble in catching up with me.
“You do know that the door you just passed was the Principal’s room right?” he mused, amusement evident in his eyes.
Throwing up my hands in frustration I turned around and walked through the door, and was warmly welcomed with open arms.
“Good! You’re early! Let’s begin. Now, I have some excellent news to share with you! This year we are holding our grandest occasion yet. This year, we will be celebrating Sierra Academy’s 200th Anniversary! The two that will be heading this project will be Ms. Alexa Ryans and Mr. Caleb Evans. Congratulations,” Our princiapl, Mr. Tyson, clapped his hands excitedly.
I stared at him in shock. Me? Anniversary? Caleb? What?
“Uh… Sir thank you for the honour, but if I may ask, why Caleb?” I asked him, unable to stop myself, then clamping my mouth shut when I realized how bad it sounded.
I glanced at Caleb and saw hurt flash in his eyes momentarily before it returned to its usual cocky, arrogant look, obviously pretending he wasn’t affected by my comment. I heard the Vice Principal, Stefan McAllister, chuckle, and turned to see why he was laughing.
“Well, the reason is actually quite simple. We chose the two of you, over so many other more senior students, over those who have been here since first grade, because we like your inventive and out of the box ideas, your passion for this business, your perseverance, and your feistiness. The school board also agrees that you make the perfect pair,” he explained, a twinkle in his eye, implying more than just the perfect working pair.
The rest of the meeting was spent furiously taking down notes and receiving folders containing more extensive information about what and how they wanted the anniversary to be celebrated. An hour later after the anniversary bomb was dropped, Caleb and I were finally allowed to leave the room. As we were walking, Caleb stopped me.
“That wasn’t nice you know what you said. In actual fact I would rather work alone. Choosing a woman is bad enough–” Caleb started, but stopped when I turned fully to stare at him, my clear blue eyes now clouded with fury.
“You idiotic, sexist, over arrogant pig! All you think women can do is to be a good fuck right? Women are as good as men in every way! I bet you, anything you want, that I can do anything you can, even this celebration, without your help,” I hissed, then stormed off, leaving a very shocked Caleb in the hallway.
-CALEB POV-
In the meeting room…
Ouch. That hurt that she was so incredulous that I had been selected. Was I really that bad? I saw her glare at me and I quickly covered up my hurt, replacing it with my usual cocky grin. I was actually really excited to work with her, even if she hated my guts.
We finally left the meeting room and she started walking to her dorm. I pulled her aside, and opened my stupid mouth.
“That wasn’t nice you know what you said. In actual fact I would rather work alone. Choosing a woman is bad enough–” I stopped, realizing I had said too much.
Way. Too. Much.
She turned to face me and I swore my blood turned as cold as her icy blue eyes.
“You idiotic, sexist, over arrogant pig! All you think women can do is to be a good fuck right? Women are as good as men in every way! I bet you, anything you want, that I can do anything you can, even this celebration, without your help,” She hissed fiercely, her dark blonde hair flipping viciously as she stormed off.
“Shit,” I said, as I watched her disappear into her office with an angry slam.
“Damn, how do I make it up to her?” I muttered to myself as I walked to the café to get a coffee.
As I was walking down the stairs, I passed by a store, selling toys and bears. I looked at the store thoughtfully, when an idea struck me.
A while later while everyone else was having lunch, I walked back to Alexa’s dorm, and hoped she would forgive me.
“I don’t think you want to go in now Caleb, she’s having a fit,” Riley, her best friend, tried whispering to me before nodding gravely, looking at me seriously.
I laughed it off and knocked on the door, hearing a “come in,” follow soon after. Taking a deep breath, I stuck the bear I had bought, complete with blue “I’m sorry” words, through the door.
“Can Caleb come in Alexa? He’s been a real jerk and realllyyyy wants to apologize. Can he please?” I said, changing the pitch of my voice so I sounded like a cartoon character.
I heard her tinkling, lilting laugh and knew it was safe to come in.
“I’m really sorry Alexa, can you please forgive me?” I asked in my normal voice, giving her my puppy dog face.
“Yes, yes, I’ll forgive you just put those eyes away!” she laughed again, the grin on her face unable to go away.
I handed her the bear and she touched it softly on its head, before placing it on the table.
“Thank you Caleb. For a jerk, you aren’t that bad,” Alexa said, winking at me.
I was about to reply when she held up a finger.
“But…” she continued, “don’t make me change my mind.”
A/n: Yes I’m changing the ages of my characters because I realize I completely don’t know how to write a merger story! Anyway, the changes will be up soon I promise! Xoxo!
