CALEB

Dinner with the Ryans was fantastic. Not. I groaned internally as mom and Alexa started talking about me when I was a kid and still loved Barbies. Yes, Barbies. I thought they were hot okay? I smirked to myself, and then smacked myself for trying to explain my love for them. To me.

Talking to yourself isn’t going to help, you’re just going to look like you’ve spaced out, my subconscious reminded me.

“Caleb, are you okay? You kind of spaced out earlier,” mom chuckled as Alexa laughed hysterically after having heard my obsession with those toy dolls.

“Yeah I’m fine. I’m glad my girlfriend enjoys my misery so much,” I muttered dryly, sending her a dark look.

She looked at me with laughter sparkling in her eyes.

“Aww it’s alright I think it’s really cute that we shared a common interest even when we were kids!” she snickered, and mom burst into another fit of giggles.

You might be asking where the men are right about now. They were too busy cheering on their soccer teams to bother tuning in to what the women were saying. And me, being a basketballer, hated soccer with a passion. And so here I am, stuck with the ladies, who are currently laughing at my expense.

“I’m leaving,” I said abruptly, standing to go, ignoring the looks that were sent my way.

I didn’t want to sit by and be ridiculed, especially not in front of my girl. How humiliating can this get?  I thought bitterly as I trudged towards the door.

“Caleb, wait,” a soft, musical voice stopped me.

I turned and saw that Alexa had followed me out.

“Stay, please. We can go up to my room, or hunt for dessert in the kitchen or just listen to music, anything, just… don’t go? I’m sorry if we pissed you off,” she said, blushing madly, obviously embarrassed by how desperate she sounded.

“Lexa, I’m not mad, well, not really. If you wanted me to stay, I will. All you had to do was ask,” I murmured to her softly, kissing her on her forehead. “I will however, take up your offer on going up to your room,” I added cheekily, but for once she didn’t seem to mind the reference.

Slipping her hand in mine we went up the stairs and into her spacious room. Her room was decorated with two different shades of purple, one was a light lavender that coated the ceiling, and the other a deep set purple that made the room look cozier.

“I love your colour scheme, it’s really you,” I said, slipping my arms round her, feeling her relax into me, finally realizing that I wasn’t really upset.

“I’m really sorry Caleb, I just found it really funny that you liked Barbies,” she said, turning to me with her blue eyes watery and pleading. “Then again, you being you, you probably thought they were hot, with their blonde hair, big boobs and tiny waist,” she added, almost as an afterthought.

I stared at her in shock before my lips cracked into a wide smile.

“Such a smart girl we have here. What do you mean by me being me hmm? Is it my reputation as a player? Or just that I’m too hot to handle?” I said cockily, watching Alexa’s eyes bug as I complimented myself.

She shook her head, her shoulders shaking as she laughed.

I pretended to pout, but it only caused Alexa to laugh even harder. I smiled contentedly, happy that she was happy. Just then, her phone rang, cutting her laughter short.
