Chapter 5- Hated?
Samantha Sullivan>> Phoebe Tonkin
-ALEXA POV-
The next day we headed out to TwinkleStarr High during their lunch period. I was nervous as hell and also really paranoid. What if we were discovered that we weren't actually students of the school? Would we be arrested? The negative thoughts made me tiptoe unnecessarily through the school's grounds, following a strangely calm Caleb as we approached the dark intimidating looking building. Just as we entered the school, Caleb turned to me and stared at me incredulously.
"What," he started, giving me The Look, "the hell are you doing Lexa?"
"Uh... Trying to be sneaky? Duh?" I replied, giving him a confused look.
He only laughed and patted my shoulder lightly, assuring me gently.
"There are over a thousand students, it's lunch break and everyone's scatter all over the school. The chances of us getting caught would be like me failing all my subjects, which we all know is," he paused dramatically, making me roll my eyes, "impossible."
I pushed past him and tried to find my way to the cafeteria. Keyword being "tried." After a good fifteen minutes of roaming the identical looking hallways, I threw my hands up in frustration. The bright yellow signs were completely useless and I finally admitted to myself. I was hopelessly lost.
"Oh bloody fantastic," I cursed under my breath and turned around to find Caleb... Gone.
Groaning and looking up towards the grey ceiling, I resignedly continued my aimless wandering. I turned a corner and heard a laugh. A laugh I recognized anywhere. It was one I knew all too well, having heard it repeatedly over the last few weeks.
"Caleb Evans..." I hissed, and the handsome boy turned to face me, his expression turning from happy to pleasantly surprised.
"My, my! You certainly took your time! Anyway we've got to go. It was lovely meeting you ladies. I bid you, adieu," Caleb hopped off the wooden table he was seated on and bowed, flashing them his killer smile, before tugging me away.
Before he could drag me too far, I dug my heels into the ground, pulling us to a halting stop.
"What-" I began, but he cut me off abruptly.
"Look, I know it looks like I was just flirting with those girls but I did get some useful information. Two things. One, they were the committee for this school's 100th anniversary celebration, and two, they gave me their numbers in case we needed any help," he smirked, and my pissed look melted into one of shock.
"How did you find the committee so fast?" I asked, shocked.
Caleb laughed and patted me on my head gently.
"Look for the well dressed hot girls. They're always in charge of the dances and celebrations," he said, shrugging nonchalantly.
"Glad you think you're a hot girl," I mused, chuckling when his face changed as he realized what he'd said.
"Nah, I'm the hot guy that helps out the gorgeous chick with the brains to plan this thing," he said easily, giving me a slight grin.
I blushed when he said that I was gorgeous. No guy had ever complimented me like that, sounding so casual yet sincere at the same time. Suddenly, Caleb grinned, his smile as wide as a Cheshire cat's.
"What?" I asked, wondering why his grin was so wide.
"You blush!" he said, coming up to me and pinching my already pink cheeks, causing me to flush even more.
