Chapter 4- Hated

-ALEXA POV-

I pondered on Caleb’s idea as I walked home in the pounding rain, the droplets hitting my pink umbrella heavily. Honestly speaking I didn’t think that interviewing them was such a good idea, especially when we could get into major trouble for doing this if the students thought we were trying to steal their ideas for a party.

When I brought it up to Caleb, he nodded thoughtfully, agreeing with my point but still insisting that we go ahead with the interviews.

“We could use the excuse like we’re doing reports for a school magazine or something or maybe a school project? We would have to be from a different school of course,” he argued, and I eventually relented, still doubtful but excited to be able to dress up in other school’s uniforms.

However, when we brought it up to our principal Mr. Tyson the next day, he adamantly refused.

“It’s lying. I know you want to gather information about the celebration, but lying isn’t the solution,” he protested.

“Sir, we’ll be careful. Mr. McAllister said perseverance was one of the reasons we were selected. Do you really want to be on that end of the perseverance?” I shot back, smiling triumphantly when I saw Mr. Tyson grimace slightly.

He sighed, defeated, and I knew we’d won.

“Fine, fine, go ahead, but if you’re found out I have absolutely nothing to do with this,” he said, eyes twinkling.

“We won’t let you down sir!” I said excitedly, and almost skipped out of his office.

“The eagle has landed!” I called Caleb excitedly, who had gone out to get us lunch.

“Awesome job Lexa, now come on over, we have costumes to pick out,” he chuckled and gave me the address of where the costume shop was.

I made my way to Madison Street, where Caleb had told me to meet him, but when I’d gotten there, he was nowhere to be found. Shrugging, I headed inside the store, and saw that costumes hung everywhere. I let my hand trail past the different fabrics, looking at the wide array of costumes they had here.

“Hmm… My observations seem to tell me that you have not had lunch yet,” a British voice spoke from behind me.

I jumped, scared by the sudden noise, and turned to see Caleb in a light brown full-length trench coat, complete with a bowler’s hat and a pipe. I couldn’t stop myself from laughing at the ridiculousness of his costume. Suddenly, a woman with wild raven coloured hair, and wolf-like eyes appeared.

“Hello, and welcome to Madame Aster’s Costume store. How may I help you?” she asked, her voice rough and husky.

“We’re looking for a set of student’s uniforms,” Caleb replied, his confidence evident in his voice.

“Mmm… I see you’re rather adventurous. Good, let me get your items. Please, feel free to browse around in the meantime,” she said in her raspy voice, her lips curled in a knowing smirk as she went behind the curtain.

“Did she think that we were… ew!” I said, grimacing as I realized what she meant by ‘adventurous.’

“Don’t worry I’m not so bad, am I?” Caleb laughed and I smacked him lightly.

Before I could reply, the lady came back out with two armfuls of clothing. I grabbed one armful, while Caleb took the other before we both went into the changing room. I stripped out of my school clothing, and stood in my underwear as rifled through the clothing.

I pulled out the school uniform, and to my horror, I realized it was the male school uniform!

That could only mean, Caleb is wearing the female one!

I couldn’t stop myself and burst into laughter as I changed into the school uniform. I walked out of the changing room, with the clothing hanging off me just as Caleb walked out. I took in the sight of him in knee high socks with a short plaid skirt, long white-sleeved shirt and a plaid blazer.  I stared at him in shock before I collapsed onto a chair, unable to stop my laughs.

“You… l… wrong clothes!” I choked out while Caleb glared at me, tugging at the skirt.

“Shut up. At least you look hot in those clothes,” he muttered sullenly.

“Come on, we’ll switch rooms. Please, for god’s sake, take off the skirt!” I shuddered and took it from him, changing into it so Caleb could wear the male uniform. When I changed into the female school uniform, I realized that the skirt was actually really short, and only came up to mid-thigh, barely covering the scar. After a few seconds of fruitless tugging, I gave up and walked out.

-CALEB POV-

When she walked out, I couldn’t help but stare. The short skirt flared, giving her body a fuller figure and showed off her long slender legs. The blazer hugged her every curve, showing off her amazing figure.

“Too slutty?” she asked, twirling one round, and snapping me out of my stupor.

“Way too slutty. You look like you want to fuck with the bosses instead of doing a report!” I snapped, suddenly furious that she would wear something like that.

What? Why am I so angry?  I thought as her face creased into a frown.

“Well jeez I’m sorry Mr. grumpy I’ll go change now,” she looked at me curiously but went to change.

“Why did I react like that? Whatever it’s gone now,” I muttered and changed out of my set of clothing.

After getting a longer skirt for Alexa, we decided that we would have lunch back at school, since it was starting to get cold outside.

“Alexa, didn’t you bring a jacket with you?” I asked when I noticed her wrap her arms around herself.

“I didn’t think it’d be this cold tonight,” she muttered, shivering violently.

“Silly girl. We’re in Spring in Manhattan, of course it’d be cold!” I said gently, and wrapped his jacket around her.

“Thanks Caleb, but what about you?” she asked, her teeth chattering quietly.

“I’m a man, I can take it,” I told her straight-faced, then grinned cheekily when she rolled her eyes at me.

“Come on, I don’t want you to catch hypothermia,” she walked faster and I lengthened my stride so we could go back to the warm confines of Sierra Academy.
