Keep calm, you’ve handled big crowds for so long another shouldn’t be a problem. I took a deep breath and turned to face the crowd.
“Guys, guys, calm down. Look, most of you already know what’s happened and I just want to ask for some privacy. Just so she can gain some form of semblance in her life, okay? Please?” I pleaded, once the crowd had quieted.
“What about the clique? What’s going to happen to them?” Amber asked, her neon pink hair standing out amongst the throng of people.
“They’ve all been suspended until further notice and Samantha especially faces expulsion. As of an hour ago her and her clique have been removed from all their positions of power. Samantha is no longer class president, cheerleading captain or on the decorating team for that matter. She’s finished. Now I’d love to talk to you bunch about how much I hate Samantha for what she’s done to my girlfriend but I just really want to go into the dorm and comfort her right now,” I said, having quickly grown weary of the crowd.
“Okay people move out! Go on, shoo!” Amber called out, flapping her arms in a shooing motion.
“Thanks Ambs,” I said gratefully, before slipping into Alexa’s room.
“You can’t keep doing this to yourself. Keeping it all in cannot be healthy for you Lexa, you and I both know that,” Riley was softly coaxing her as I watched my girlfriend sit stock still, her eyes lifeless and dull.
“I agree. Let it out. No one will blame you. They’ve all felt the same shit you’ve gone through. It’s just that you seemed to get the brunt of it,” I cooed softly, gathering Alexa into my arms.
“We were best friends, you know?” she stuttered out, gentle tremors wracking her body. “In high school. Grew up together and everything. Told each other all our secrets. Then we graduated and she totally changed. I went with her to bleach her dark hair, to buy new barely there scraps of lingerie, luxury brands of makeup and as short a skirt as they would allow. We were still close over the summer but when school started she was suddenly giving me the cold shoulder, pretending as if we never knew one another. It was as if my best friend was gone. Then the whole Alexander fiasco happened and she told me…” she stopped, tears running down her face. “She told me our friendship before was bullshit. She was just using me for good grades! I threatened to expose her, I tried but she made me a social pariah in our first year and no one would believe me. No one except Riley,” she cried softly, burying her head into my shoulder as she sobbed.
I looked to Riley for explanation. She sighed before telling Samantha’s frankly shocking tale.
-Flashback-
“Samantha Sullivan is a wicked lying bitch,” Alexa seethed, anger flaming in her ice blue eyes.
“You know, her parents work so much they don’t even know who she is? They think by compensating their absence with money everything will be okay. She bleaches her hair every month and wakes up two hours early to style her hair to make sure that she is the picture perfect daughter of the successful Sullivans. Oil rich daddy who’s steeped in dirty money and trophy wife Mommy who doesn’t know anything except her Manolo Blahnik shoes and Prada totes. Samantha lies about all those exotic places she goes to. Paris, London, Milan, they’re all bullshit! They’re too busy cooing over her model Harvard brother Jasper to even give a flying fuck about her! Oh the secrets I have on that bitch. I want to ruin her so bad!” Alexa ranted furiously, pacing manically up and down the small space.
“Alexa calm down. What happened?” Riley asked, already suspecting the worst.
“Alex cheated on me with her,” she replied, all the fight suddenly gone.
