Caleb Evans>> Jesse McCartney
Chapter 2- Hated
-ALEXA POV-
Caleb seemed to be over the moon that I had forgiven him.
“Come on Lexa, let’s go out for dinner, my treat. We need to celebrate us being selected!” he repeated for the umpteenth time while we were working on our proposal.
I turned my head and ignored his annoying whining. He continued to pester me until I finally threw my hands up in frustration.
“Fine! We’ll go out, but only if we can finish all this damn work in the next two hours okay?” I said, driven mad by his pleas.
“Great. Okay back to work! Chop chop Alexa we have a deadline to hit!” Caleb clapped his hands and picking up the reports triumphantly.
I rolled my eyes at him. “Real mature Caleb, real mature,” I mumbled, and glanced over to see Caleb completely ignoring me, engrossed in the numbers on his pieces of paper.
“Men and their numbers,” I said loudly, and Caleb looked up and me and smirked.
Two agonizing hours later, we finally finished. Flopping back on the twirly chair, I breathed a huge sigh of relief. Caleb, who had also just finished re-organizing all our information, threw the papers on the floor and groaned, rubbing his eyes tiredly.
“I’m never, ever going to look at the nerds the same again. How do they do this every single day?” he groaned, lying flat out on the sofa he was currently seated on.
I poked him in his side and told him we could go.
“My car’s in the shop so we’re gonna have to take yours,” I told him as I shut down my laptop and started packing.
Strangely, there was no response from Caleb. I turned and walked in front of him and laughed. He’d fallen asleep! Looking at him again, I realized he looked really good, even asleep. He looked, well, angelic and peaceful, and my eyes ran over his face, and downwards, tracing the planes of his chest, his muscles obvious through his tight shirt.
“Are you done staring?” A playful comment jolted me out of my, well, staring.
My cheeks turned hot and my eyes flew up to meet his, filled with mischief and amusement.
“I… I… Oh! Let’s just go okay?” I stammered, I turned and stumbled on my heels.
Quick as lightning, Caleb’s arm shot out, and caught me before I planted my face on the floor.
“That’s twice now Ryans. Let’s not try for three aye? Come on, let’s go,” he said gently, his eyes twinkling.
I followed behind him mutely, my face still burning from being caught staring at him. I was so wrapped up in my thoughts I didn’t realize we had reached his car, and crashed straight into him.
“Careful sweetheart, we don’t need a trip to the ER now do we?” Caleb teased, and I huffed, my face even hotter than before as I got into the car.
Caleb just chuckled as he got in.
I looked out the window as Caleb drove us into town. It was pretty late and there wasn’t much traffic. As he drove, I noticed the scenery flitting past us faster and faster.
I peeked at his speed meter, and panic gripped me.
“Caleb can you please drive slower?” I choked out, the fear and panic creeping up, the memories paralyzing me.
