Hey guys, so sorry about the wait, I explain why it took so long in the Author's Note at the end of the chapter. I hope y'all enjoy!

Jen's POV

I slowly opened my eyes, clearly it was the middle of the night as it was almost pitch black out, the only light coming from a few campfires set up in the main camp. I glanced around as my eyes adjusted to the darkness.

"Why are we even still with them?" I heard Erica ask in a low, barely audible whisper.

"Because they're the best chance of survival that we've got... this is purely about our survival... if we have to put up with assholes like Matt and psychopaths like Angela for us to survive and be safe it's worth it." Declan answered as I looked over at the couple.

"They don't care about either of you." I stated, causing both of them to jump from surprise and look over at me. "If you think for a second that any of those people would help you if you needed them, then you're wrong... dead wrong."

They don't like Angela or her people, but they feel safer in a group. Maybe I can sway them over and get them to help us, then they can come back with us to find everyone else.

"This isn't any of your business." Declan said in annoyance. "Just go back to sleep."

"I'm trying to help you, just hear me out... that's all I ask." I said as I stared at him.

"We're listening." Erica said as she looked over at her boyfriend and glared at him.

The teen sighed and looked down at the ground before looking back up and giving me a nod.

"We have more people. Good people. People who would actually help you if you needed help. Angela and Matt and any other person in this group would watch you die before even considering helping you." I explained as I glanced between the two teenagers. "If you let us out you can come with us. You can have a group that would back you up... a group that would care about you."

Declan chuckled slightly before looking back at the camp.

"A group that would back us up... that would care about us." He said as he looked back at me. "So you're telling me that Nolan was backing you up? That he cared about you? If those things are true, then why is he not tied up right there next to you?"

I was about to respond when he continued to talk.

"Because those things aren't true. He doesn't care about you. He didn't back you up." He said as he shrugged. "He betrayed you. Let us take you guys as prisoners. In fact, he caused you to get caught in the first place. It seems to me like he didn't care about y'all."

He's not wrong. Nolan is a very bad example of what I'm saying.

"Thanks for the offer... but we'll pass." Declan said as he shook his head and turned away. "Now go back to sleep, we've got a long walk tomorrow."

Erica continued to look at me with a thoughtful look on her face. After a few more minutes she turned away as well and leaned her head on her boyfriend's shoulder. I sighed and looked down at the ropes holding me to the tree.

Well, plan A failed... time for plan B.

I began trying to pull my hand free from the ropes. The rope rubbed tightly against my wrists, rubbing my skin raw as I attempted to get my hand free.
