(OLD) Chapter 24: Something To Fight For (OLD)

Ethan's POV

"Who else is coming with us?" I asked as Carl and I were getting ready for the run.

"I've asked Landon, Talia, Archer and Enid. They all said they'd come. Akio wanted to come but he's still not in great shape after being tortured by Frank, so I told him he needed to stay here, give himself some time to heal." He answered.

I strapped my belt on and attached my sheath and holster to it then placed my sword in the sheath and my pistol in the holster.

"Hey, while you guys are out there can you see if you can find any books that seem interesting?" Abel asked quietly.

I looked over at the bed and saw that he was somewhat awake but Cain was still asleep. He was watching Carl and I.

"I mean, we can, but there's several bookshelves here, have you looked through them?" I asked.

"Yeah we've looked. There were a couple that were pretty interesting but we already finished them." He answered.

"Ok, we'll keep our eyes out for some books for you guys." Carl said as he ruffled the sleepy boy's hair.

"Thanks. You're the best." He muttered quietly before closing his eyes again.

We walked out of the room and down the stairs where we found the other four sitting in the living room waiting for us.

"Ok, let's go. We need to find a lot of supplies so we need as much time as we can get." Carl said as he led the way out of the house and towards one of the trucks.

We all got in, Talia driving, Landon in the passenger seat and Carl, Archer, Enid, and I sat in the back seat so the bed of the truck was left empty for all the stuff we'd collect. I was sitting on Carl's lap to give the others room.

"Talia, there's a town just a few hours away according to this map. We should start there." Landon  said as he looked at a map he had found in the truck.

"Yeah, let's go." Talia responded before starting the vehicle and driving onto the road and towards the town.

"You two look comfy." Enid said as she smirked at Carl and I.

"Jealous?" Carl asked as he smirked back.

"Pfh... no. Why would I be jealous?" She asked.

"Because you're still single and you're jealous that we aren't." Carl answered.

"Ok... maybe a little." She said after a long exaggerated sigh.

"Hey, at least you're not the only single person here." Archer said.

"True. Most of us here are single, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm jealous of how happy they are." She responded as she jerked her thumb over to us.

"Fair enough." Archer said.

We all laughed for a couple minutes and only stopped when Talia parked the truck and said we were at the town.

"Ok, let's split up into groups and search everything. We need as much stuff as we can get." Talia said as she got out.

"Well, I don't know about you guys, but I'm going with Ethan. Try not to die!" Carl said as he grabbed my hand and we walked away from the rest of the group and towards a house.
