Sasha lived 14 minutes away from me in a nice gated community. It was easy finding her place surprisingly. I wasn't the best with directions or following a GPS but I made it work without having to call her for help.
I sat in my car for a few seconds to calm my nerves. This was the last place I expected myself to be on a Saturday night. The porch light was on and when I saw Sasha open the front door with a fuzzy blanket wrapped around her, my face split open into a face eating grin. She waited patiently until I exited the car. As soon as I was in front of her, she stepped to the side and let me in. I was greeted by a large puppy right away, followed by the cutest little light brown poodle with pigtails in its fur on top of its head.
"These are my babies, Midnight and Jasmine." She smiled at the dogs sniffing my legs. Midnight was the all white Great Dane she just adopted. His crystal blue eyes were almost just like Sasha's.
"Hi guys," I petted each of their heads and then put my focus back onto Sasha. She blushed as my eyes took in her natural beauty.
"Right so umm...my room." Sasha turned around and led me thru the living room, down a dark hallway and up a small flight of stairs. We passed two bedrooms before we reached hers.
When she told me her favorite color was pink, she didn't lie. Her walls were white but it seemed like everything else in her room was pink. She had an oversized king bed with a pink and white comforter pulled back. The sheets were light pink and silky smooth. White lights hung in every corner of her room.
While I looked around, Midnight and Jasmine walked up a small ramp that led to her bed. Jasmine got comfortable first and then Midnight sat next to Sasha. I gawked at the flat screen mounted on her wall and at the full body mirror standing over her dresser. I noticed how high the walls were and wondered how she got the lights to hang and if she decorated the place by herself.
"Your room is so cute." I smiled and sat next to her. Midnight put his head on my lap and let out a yawn.
"I told you I like pink." She rose her eyebrows and nodded at the pink fuzzy rug spread across the middle of the floor. As cute as she was, I still noticed that her eyes were red and puffy. I wanted to know what was bothering her but she obviously didn't want to talk about that.
I put my focus on the TV to prevent myself from being too intrusive.
"High school of the dead?" I was amazed and shocked. I did not expect Sasha to be into anime. A genuine smile crossed my face. I wanted her now more than ever.
"Why you smiling at me like that?"
"You're completely different than what I thought you'd be. I like it." My words made her blush.
"Which was what? Just a stripper?" I hated that she was right. I hated that I stereotyped her as soon as I laid eyes on her, as gorgeous as she was. Hesitation made the answer to her question obvious.
"It's fine, I'm used to it." The sadness in her voice made my stomach turn.
An uncomfortable silence crept in between us. One of the dogs snored lightly which kept my thoughts busy enough not to think about how badly I wanted to kiss her. We weren't sitting extremely close to each other but I could still smell her fruity scent.
She was still wrapped up in her blanket but now there was a distant look in her eyes. It was like she was there with me but not there with me at the same time. I watched a tear slide down her face and once that one hit the blanket, more poured out involuntarily.
"What's wrong boo? Tell me what happened." I pulled her closer and put my arm around her. She tried to resist my touch at first but I wasn't budging. Finally she wiped her eyes and looked at me. My stomach fluttered uncontrollably.
"My grandma passed away..."
