Rain

I don't know how we lucked out, but aside from a few individual schedules, the boys have earned themselves a day off. However, it's raining. The clouds are gray and melancholy, the air is humid, and the streets are slick and soggy. No one seems more disappointed than Namjoon.

"They're saying to expect a few inches of rain along with lightning." He sighs heavily, shaking his head. He clicks off the news displaying the weather. "I was hoping to take a walk with you around the park."

"And I wanted to take you to Han River," Hoseok adds.

"Oh, shopping!" Jimin chimes in.

I look outside. None of those options seem attainable. At least not comfortably. Taehyung is off to the doctor and physical therapy to stimulate healing. Jungkook is working with his personal trainer because apparently, there are no days off for the golden maknae. And Yoongi is...MIA.

"I'm sure we can figure out something to do here," I say, hoping to raise their spirits. They must be tired; it's a wonder they're not all still sleeping in, even though it's noon. I guess they were hoping to get out and stretch their legs after long schedules held them hostage at the company building.

"Brunch, anyone? I'll cook!"

The mention of food seems to grab their attention.

"I'll help," Jin offers.

"Me too," Jimin says, although Jin shoots him a look.

"Me and Joon-ah will clean," Hobi pipes up. Apparently, they like to keep Namjoon out of the kitchen at all costs.

We launch into preparing our brunch spread. Jimin works on cutting fresh fruit and organizing the pieces neatly onto a platter. Jin works on popular Korean dishes liked rolled eggs and kimchi stew, while I take over typical American breakfast dishes. Hobi and Joon take turns as DJ and play some of the tracks on their personal playlists. I'm not surprised they avoid their own songs; they hear and perform them constantly. But I hope they don't feel awkward if I listen to them. The last thing I want to do is come off as a fan.

"So guys...I've been listening to some of your music."

I don't have to turn away from the stove to know that all activity has ceased. I can even feel their stares burning into my back.

"Which songs?" Namjoon asks.

I turn towards them, and sure enough, their gazes are all fixed on me. "Um, all of them?"

The guys glance at each other as if having a telepathic conversation before looking back to me.

"And what did you think?" Hoseok asks pensively.

Wait...are they worried? About what I think? They're mega, global stars. Everything they put their stamp on goes viral in minutes. Everyone from Pharrell to Dolly Parton is enamored with them. Why do they care if I think their music is good?

"I loved it, of course!" I reply, hoping to relay my sincerity while also easing their anxiety. "How could I not? The composition, the lyrics, the arrangement... It can't be easy to fit 7 very different voices and distinct styles into one song, right?"

"No," Namjoon shakes his head. "It's not easy at all."

"Well, you guys pull it off, without the songs sounding choppy or just patched together. Everything flows. I really loved it all."

The four of them seem to collectively sigh.

"Do you have any favorite songs?" Jin asks, sidling up beside me to share the stove.

"Hmmm..." I give it some thought. Their catalog is vast and diverse. "There's just so many songs. And your sound has evolved a ton yet I love the older stuff too. One of these days, I want to binge all your concerts from the very first to the most recent."
