Chapter 11 - The Crash

3rd Person POV:

Sirius was home alone right now. Remus was in India, about to board the flight back to Australia, on which he was working as a cabin crew. It will take about 16 hours from Mumbai to Sydney.

Later that day, after the flight was supposed to have landed, Sirius was still home alone. Only this time, he was very anxious. He would have gone to get his fiance, but Remus specifically said not to come, and Sirius wasn't going to go against it this time.

It had been 2 and a half hours since the plane should have landed. Remus should have been home by now or at least called. Scared and hoping everything was alright, Sirius calls James and Lily.

"Hey, Sirius!" James exclaims.

"Hi... James, has Remus called or contacted you in any way today?"

"No," James replies, worry evident in his voice, "Wasn't he supposed to be home by now?"

"He was, but he isn't. Nor has he called. I am really scared, James. What if something bad happened?" Sirius explains, tears filling his eyes and his voice breaking.

"Don't worry, I am- wait, Lily, come here! Have you heard from Remus today or anything about his flight?" James asks, putting them on speaker.

"No, and he wasn't online at all today either," Lily says frowning.

"I am really worried. There is no news about his flight either," Sirius adds.

"Okay. James and I will come to your house right away. Switch on the TV for any news and try to stay calm, okay?"

"Okay."

Within 10 minutes, James and Lily arrived at Sirius' house and hurriedly sat in front of the TV, hoping for news of any kind.

Sirius even called the airport's radio radar station and asked for news of the flight, from where he got to know that Remus' flight was their radar for 2 minutes before disappearing and they were trying to locate it.

5 minutes later, there was breaking news on the TV.

JUST IN: QANTAS AIRWAYS FLIGHT 756 HAS REPORTEDLY CRASHED IN A VALLEY EAST OF SYDNEY. MORE ON THIS COMING UP.

That was when Sirius' life came crashing down and broke into a million tiny pieces.

He sank to the floor and starting crying his eyes out. Lily and James joined him, wrapping their arms around him.

As James was on the floor with Sirius, Lily stood up and faced the TV, trying to see through her tear covered eyes for any new updates.

It has just been reported than Qantus flight 756 has crashed in a farmland east of Sydney. Till now, it seems like there are no survivors. More updates as they come in.

This just caused the three to break further.

"Why does everyone I love and care about leave me?", Sirius asked, in between sobs.

"Sirius, that is not true," James said through the tears.

"Yes it is. You know about my brother, James, he killed himself."

"Because of your parents, Sirius, it wasn't your fault."

"Yes it was!", Sirius exclaimed, " If I had cared more about him, if I hadn't ignored his pleas for help, if I had noticed the change in him, he would still be alive."

"I will never leave you, Sirius. You can never get rid of me," James said, hugging Sirius.

Lily kept changing news channels, hoping for a new development when, 5 minutes later, she got one.

On the crash: Out of the 54 passengers and crew on board the flight, 24 have died on impact, including the 2 pilots. The 30 survivors are all injured to various degrees. All the bodies and people are being transported to Sydney Hospital right now. No one is sure about what has caused this Boeing 737 to slam to the ground. More on this as it develops.

"Let's go there now," Lily says. James takes the keys and Sirius follows them silently, looking down with tears lining his cheeks. Lily sat in the front with James, who was driving, while Sirius sat in the back, lost in thought and hoping against hope that Remus was alive.

They reached the hospital in 15 minutes and rushed inside to meet the other people waiting there to find their loved ones.

After 5 agonizing minutes of waiting, the bodies arrived. One by one, they entered the building and each one was either surrounded by crying family members or left all alone because their family didn't live in Sydney.

In the crowd, Sirius, James and Lily were looking for Remus everywhere. Suddenly, Lily gasped, grabbing the other two boys attention.

"Remus..."

A/N: Another cliffhanger. I am sorry for the angst. I have had this idea for ages and finally had time and wifi (because I am on vacation) to write it down.
