"They're crazy," laughed Chaeyoung, a sparkle in her eyes. "I don't understand how they can get away with this kind of stuff whenever they want."
"I still don't get it," Tzuyu said blankly, not following Chaeyoung's excited rambles. She'd met up with Chaeyoung as usual to walk to the company building, but within a second of seeing the smaller girl she was talking on and on about something Tzuyu hadn't heard about.
"Dahyun texted me last night," Chaeyoung explained. "I would have texted you too, but I was afraid I'd explain it bad or wake you up."
Tzuyu blushed. "I'm trying to get better," she mumbled. "Just haven't gotten used to the keyboard enough to be good at texts."
Chaeyoung frowned. "Oh, baby, don't worry about that. You're doing really good at learning Korean, and I'm proud of you. I just didn't want to confuse you, because it's a weird situation." She spoke without thinking, every word true and earnest. Her words caught up to her a second after she said them, and she felt a flash of nerves when she realized what she'd said.
Tzuyu nodded, her cheeks even pinker at the gentle pet name and compliment. "Thank you Unnie," she murmured. Chaeyoung's heart did a flip at the quiet honorific.
"I'm barely older than you," she said, unable to prevent a small smile pulling up the corners of her lips.
The younger girl shrugged shyly. "Still older. What... What was it that Dahyun texted you?"
Chaeyoung was glad she'd changed the subject. If Tzuyu kept acting shy and adorable like that, she was sure her heart would have burst. "It's about Nayeon and Jeongyeon. And Jihyo and Minju too."
"Who's Minju?" asked Tzuyu curiously, her embarrassed behavior already fading. "Isn't she a staff member?"
"Yeah," confirmed Chaeyoung with a nod. "Do you want to start walking now?"
The taller girl nodded, adjusting the small bag she had slung over her shoulder. "Yeah," she agreed nonchalantly, though her face still felt warm. Internally, Tzuyu just kept hearing Chaeyoung calling her baby, and telling her she was proud. The younger girl couldn't help but feel small and shy when Chaeyoung was so nice to her, but it was in a good way. A warm way. It made her feel comfortable.
"Okay," exhaled Chaeyoung softly, walking close to Tzuyu, their hands occasionally brushing each other and shoulders bumping softly. "So basically, Nayeon and Jeongyeon were talking about what trainee will be suitable for a certain task-- don't ask me what, or who, because no one but the inner circle of management knows right now. And honestly, when Dahyun told me that I was already a little worried, since they've been separated for a while now. And... well, they are a little intense at times. I don't know exactly what's been going on, but it's a little worrying to give them a task alone, especially since we all know they're crazy about this company. And about each other, but that's doubtful as of right now."
Tzuyu frowned slightly. For whatever reason, she'd had the impression that Jeongyeon and Momo were together... She remembered seeing Momo for the first time on the plane ride to Korea, how she'd leaned against Jeongyeon while sleeping and looked so happy with her. But she also remembered Jeongyeon's almost guilty expressions and slight discomfort. Tzuyu had dismissed it as Jeongyeon just not comfortable with public affection. Jeongyeon had told the trainee that she was in a relationship before, but her private ways made Tzuyu just think she was shy about it. But maybe she'd read it all wrong. Nayeon must have been the girl in question, not Momo... At least, that was what Chaeyoung was saying.
"Tzuyu, you good?" Chaeyoung's gently voiced concern tugged Tzuyu out of her racing thoughts.
"Y-yeah," mumbled Tzuyu. "What happened with Nayeon and Jeongyeon then?"
Chaeyoung laughed. "Well, they got distracted and somehow managed to talk Minju, who was in charge of the social media announcement about the release of the next single, into pushing back the release date a week to give the company more time and Jihyo enough rest. And they convinced her to do that within twenty minutes of the announcement, which makes this even more funny!"
Tzuyu smiled, turning to look at Chaeyoung. Her eyes crinkled around the edges and her teeth showed. "How'd they get away with that?"
"Well, I guess it's okay because they have so much power in the company. They founded this company, hired many of the first employees, auditioned Jihyo and Jimin as well as helped teach them as trainees, and now manage all the trainees, along with Sunghyun of course. Add Minju, who is a comeback and concept analyst as well as producer, and their wisdom is enough for people to erase their doubt. It's especially convincing since everyone feels the tension between Nayeon and Jeongyeon. If they can agree on something, then it must be good."
Tzuyu giggled. She didn't know Nayeon very well, though she admired her and cherished the time that Chaeyoung had told her that Nayeon thought she was improving a lot. But she had talked to Jeongyeon a number of times, as she was the foreign manager, and it was odd to imagine her doing things so impulsively. She'd always been very firm and delibrate with her trainees.
"That's crazy," Tzuyu said, sounding amused. Chaeyoung hummed in agreement, a smile present of both of their faces.
It wasn't long until they reached the building, and they entered silently, each girl's mind filled with scrambled thoughts. About their own little interactions, the boldness of Nayeon and Jeongyeon's actions, and whether it would turn out alright. Tzuyu, in particular, was occupied with wondering what the chosen trainees would be doing. Not too long ago, Sana had modeled in a photo-shoot. But besides that, there hadn't been any recent trainee assignments. Tzuyu hadn't modeled since she'd left the headquarters in Taiwan, and Sana had only had the one photo-shoot since they'd landed in Korea. Truthfully, Tzuyu was stumped. Were they starting to form the long awaited YWE girl group and had just picked the first members?
"When will we learn what the trainees are doing, and who they are?" blurted out Tzuyu as they entered the building. She couldn't help it. She was so curious to know.
"I don't know," admitted Chaeyoung. "This is just what Dahyun sent me. Nayeon confirmed it to her in a somewhat cryptic text, though, so I what I told you is true, but it's all I know."
"Okay," the younger girl said passively, though a hint of disappointment was in her voice. They both stopped instinctively upon reaching Chaeyoung's desk. Chaeyoung plopped her lunch onto the clean surface, sighing at the sight of the new stack of papers. She didn't remember that set. Probably would be new paperwork because of the comeback's date adjustment.
Chaeyoung turned to Tzuyu to wish her luck with training, but didn't manage to say any of words she'd wanted to. Tzuyu smiled weakly, but Chaeyoung could see that she was upset.
"What is it?" she asked softly, restraining herself from any pet names that wanted to spill past her lips.
"Just..." Tzuyu shuddered. "Worried that I've been forgotten by the company. I haven't had a modeling job in a while, and I'm not talented enough to be chosen for anything."
Chaeyoung hugged Tzuyu tightly, grateful that they had arrived early enough for certain staff members not to have shown up, and late enough most trainees that were going to show were already practicing. "That's a lie," she whispered against Tzuyu's neck. "You have talent, or else you wouldn't be there. I can't wait until I can see you perform for me."
"T-thank you," Tzuyu stammered, pulling away softly. "I appreciate it, Chaeyoung."
