Chapter 27: The test of Control

~Mal's POV~

We all went back to our rooms and prepare ourselves for what's coming in our way. I entered my room and breathed heavily as I make my way towards my bed. I flop down, hoping that I can calm myself down with the help of relaxation. I stared at the ceiling that made me remember what happened earlier. I sighed deeply that made me close my eyes for a moment.

But that was a mistake....

~??? POV~
I was in the courtyard with dad and Lightning, relaxing in the autumn breeze. I kept on patting Lightning as she drank the water in the fountain. She neighed in annoyance that made my dad laugh at my jumpy state. "You better stop patting her while she drinks or else she'll try to annoy you back." He grinned as I pouted in defeat. We both took our sit and watch the clouds roll in the sky. Something in my mind hit me for curiosity that made me question him with innocence.

"Daddy, are you still going to war?"

"Of course sweetie. I still have to."

"Why? Don't you want to be safe with everyone else?"

"Because sweetie, I want to keep you all safe. Especially my little monster and my outstanding queen. Even if it will risk my life, I want to protect and defend the kingdom, it's my decision to make. Besides, you as well will decide once you get there. You might say the exact words either in front of your mother or your friends or maybe even in front of the kingdom. One day you'll say, 'This is my decision, my choice, I can do it because I want to prove myself that I can protect all of you'. As long as you keep standing on your ground, you will never be defeated."

"Ok Daddy! Someday I'll be as strong as you and as wise as mom too." I said with eyes sparkling in awe.

Dad patted my head and gave me his brightest smiles that made the innocent me smile back at him, not knowing the hardships and sufferings he will go up against. She didn't know that  she won't see him again...

Forever....

~Mal's POV~
I woke up breathing heavily at what I dreamt. Sweat kept on dripping from my forehead and my eyes sting a little. I dashed through the bathroom and saw myself in the mirror. Crying and scared. My eyes were red and puffy and face is covered with sweat and tears.

I wash my face and tried calming down from what happened. My thoughts kept on focusing on the dream that I had. Especially in his voice. "D-dad..." I whispered shakily.

I took a bath to cool myself down and immediately started packing for a little adventure. I grabbed my bag and sword and immediately wore my cloak and sneak out of my room. The moon shined through every windows in the castle. 'Guess I slept early. I didn't even bother eating dinner with them' I thought. I tried minimizing the noise of my steps as I walk past Cass and Angel's room. I managed to slip inside of the banquet hall and saw some biscuits.

"This would do for now." I said to myself as I pull out a pouch and start putting half of the platter of biscuits inside of my bag. After that, I start pulling out my water jug out as well and fill it with water from the mini fountain inside. As I finish my add-on, I immediately sneak back and took a different turn until I get to the courtyard.

I then suddenly felt eyes on me so I stopped and looked around. I hid in the shadows as I tried to find the eyes that watched me earlier. I snap back and immediately focus on my escape. I sneak through the courtyard without the guards noticing me and hid in shadows of the castle wall. I pull out my spell book and casted a spell on myself that made me invisible and walk through the wall. As I sigh in relief, I quickly ran to the forest deeper as the spell wear off. I stopped to catch my breath and I looked around the area to know that I am in the middle of the Wyvern Forest. Casting another spell on my eyes, I immediately adjusted myself in the dark as my vision became clear. I started walking once more, hoping that I will find somewhere to stay for the night.
