"Well, it all started that day I called you...
Keith's Point of view
I hopped onto the kitchen counter and sat as I nearly yanked the phone off the wall. I dialed her up and waited until she answered.
"So, to be clear, I can't wear jeans?" she sighed. I could just see her distressed face,
"No, Keith, please just wear something nice. I would love it if you would, " she pleaded. I smiled feeling my heart speed up,
"Alright, you got it sugar. I'll see ya then, "
She loved everything to be perfect. I liked her that way,
I didn't want to mess this up. She didn't tell me where we were going, but I knew it was special to her. I wore a simple button-down tucked into some slacks. I tried a tie but had my sister tie it for me. I even combed my hair differently, slick back the way she likes it. Before I could leave my mother stopped me,
"Keith Mathews you are not leaving without a picture, " she cheered as she called my sister to get a camera.
"Mom, I'm going to be la-"
Even though I towered over her, she instructed me and pushed me to the stairs where she had me pose.
"You look so handsome!" she smiled. Her eyes watery as she stared at the picture. Curious I followed her gaze,
"Oh Geez, I look like Clark Gable, " I howled. My mother gave me a quick slap on the shoulder and sent me off with the camera so I could take a picture with Y/n to bring back to her.
When I got to her place, her dad was already waiting out in the back. The garage opened and random things like canoes and chairs were spread out.
"Having a garage sale sir?" I called out to him. He chuckled and shook my hand,
"Sure looks like it. No, you know Y/n she has a way with words and has me doing all this work, " he smiled. I was confused but didn't ask any questions, he called out for Y/n then disappeared into the garage.
"You know Keith it would be real nice if you could help me with the boat..."
At that point, I stopped listening, slowly and softly Y/n came from the house. A smile on her face, her silk gloves gripped a basket, she was in a yellow dress and had her hair in curls the way I loved it.
I couldn't help but feel nervous. I started to sweat. My truck was too ugly to have her in it. What if I screwed something up? As she got closer, my face grew red. I didn't know what to say; she just looked so...her.
"Keith, could you please help me with the boat son?" Mr. Y/l/n snapped me out of my dream,
"Boat?" I turned to him, and there he was holding a small rowboat over his head. I rushed to help him. I could hear Y/n laughing.
Gee, we were going on a boat. A boat out of all things she wanted to do today sailing in dangerous shallow waters was the thing she chose. She always had her mind set on something and she will never stop until she reaches it. Even thought I hated the idea of a boat, I liked her that way.
"I know you're scared, Keith, but it's just water," she smiled. Her dad gave me a look and raised an eyebrow,
"I feel you son. If you rather stay here and eat some lunch rather then go and splash around in the water I understa-"
"Dad," she scolded.
Before I knew it we were out in the country by a lake. She wouldn't stop smiling. She was a laughing mess which looked so beautiful I couldn't help but go on with what she had planned.
You don't let your fears stop something so beautiful.
Slowly she helped me set down the boat. I helped her in and stepped inside myself.
"Woah!" I gripped onto her arm as I lost balance. She busted out in laughs and helped me in overcoming my laughter as she tumbled back into her seat.
She had a crazy laugh, I liked her that way.
I smiled and began rowing, it was silent other then the sounds of birds and water. I know she loved it just by the way she gazed around. Y/n was always up for going out into the country. Her and the Curtis's went all the time when they were little,
"You know my aunt and uncle use to do this, " she smiled. I raised an eyebrow as I used the Paddles to row the boat across the lake.
"Mr. and Mrs.Curtis?" she smiled and nodded patting down her dress.
"Yeah, she told me. Then one day she took me and Sodapop since Ponyboy used to follow Darry like a fly and Darry wanted to stay home, " she smiled and breathed in the air. "It was when we were kids. I knew I wanted to come back, but with someone special. Like she used to with my uncle," she smiled up at me.
Nobody has ever called me special. I've always been known as a low life nobody. Never special,
I wanted to say something but stayed quiet until rowed to the end of the lake.
There as I weighted down the boat with rocks to stop it from moving, she set up a picnic. From the big basket, she laid out a nice red blanket. On top, there was one bottle of cold milk, sandwiches, some cake, and one bottle of beer.
And once I saw that beer I knew I loved you, "
Your pov
You rolled your eyes,
"That is not when you found out you loved me, Keith, " you groaned. You were anxious and wanted him to keep telling the story, he chuckled.
Keith's pov
"Well, after we finished eating...
I laid back and relaxed for a bit. I legs crossed and arms behind my head. I heard her finish cleaning, and she laid next to me. She kept her distance, though, she always did. But I just wanted to hold her and feel her with me.
Like she read my mine slowly, she got up and laid her head on my chest, her arm reaching over and resting on me. She felt so soft, her skin...and she smelled like honey.
Aww man, I felt it. I felt like I could lay there forever. And just feeling her right there and finally being able to hold her and lay with her after I don't know maybe five months of dating. I knew I loved her. And it wasn't in a dirty way, but I could I don't know trust her and finally have someone and know they won't leave."
I took a deep breath remembering the story. Y/n, smiled and hugged me, she didn't let go for a long time. Her skin was soft and she still smelled like honey, though her left hand had a ring on it and she never left me. And I liked it that way,
