"Hey daddy." Diya called out as she stepped out if the car. Her parents were already at the door."Hey princess!" Aditya pulled her into a hug. "I missed you so much."
"I missed you too daddy."
"And me?" Nisha's voice came from behind.
"Ofcourse mommy. I missed you too."
"I missed you too my dear."
Nisha pulled back and lovingly caressed her daughter's cheek.
Her expression suddenly turned to worry. "Diya? What's this on your forehead? You got hurt?" She lightly stroked the mark on Diya's forehead.
The injury from her fall had got cured. But there was still a mark at that place. "Nothing mom, I just got hurt in my room."
"Your room? But how?"Aditya stepped forward to inspect Diya's forehead.
"Study table. I bent down to pick up a fallen pen and my head hit the edge of the table."
"Sweetie, you should be careful."
"Yes mom." Diya nodded.
Chirag tried to stiffle a laughter.
"Why are you laughing?" Shruti asked. "Is it something else?"
"No-no. Nothing mumma."
Diya felt happy to see her parents again after almost two months. She was the only daughter of Nisha Kapoor Gupta and Aditya Gupta.
Nisha Gupta along with her brother Naren Kapoor ran the very famous Nina incorporation. Aditya was an architect working in the same company itself. Office romance brewed between Nisha and Aditya and bought the two of them closer.
"Chirag, how are you boy?" Aditya asked as he hugged Chirag too and patted his back.
"I'm good Aditya phuphaa." Chirag then turned. "Nisha bua."
"Chirag." Nisha smiled at her nephew and gave him a hug.
At the same time Diya greeted her Naren mama and Shruti mami.
"Come on inside. Let's sit and chat." Nisha led her daughter and nephew inside. The six of them got comfortable in the living room.
"So how is college going on for you two?" Naren asked.
"It's going on good."
"And you Diya?"
"Good for me too Naren mama."
"And how were your exams?" Shruti asked.
"They were good too. Especially economics and accounts papers went quite well. I'm just a little bothered about the law paper," Diya said.
"Mine were good too. Physics was a little tricky... but I handled it."
"Don't worry. I'm sure you two will fare well in the exams." Nisha smiled.
"Thanks mommy."
"Thanks bua... By the way what's for lunch?" I'm hungry."
"Your always hungry." Diya commented.
"Let's go to the table then." Naren said and stood up. "Both of your mother's have taken special efforts to prepare your favourite food"
Diya too stood up and was about to walk to the dinning table following Chirag and his parents.
But Nisha and Aditya stopped her.
"Diya?" Aditya sat straight in his chair. "Are you really happy there? Is there any issue? Any trouble you are facing?"
"No daddy? Why do you ask?" She frowned and wondered if they knew about the Myra incident.
"Diya," Nisha said softly. "Your father and I miss you a lot. We want you to stay with us. We have so many good colleges here. Why don't you shift back at home?"
"Mom, you both know why I took this decision. I wanted to live independently... And it's just a question of three years... I am already in my second year... Plus Chirag is also there."
"Yes dear. But we don't like this arrangement. We get to see you almost once in a month..." She then looked at Aditya. "Maybe we should get a house near to her college. Then she can live with us."
"Yes Nisha. I'll right away call up the estate agent and ask him for new places. You know what... We don't even need a bungalow. A small flat will also suffice."
"Ofcourse Adi. We just need to be with our daughter." Nisha lovingly caressed her daughter's hair.
"No mommy. You know how many precious memories are linked with this house. And I love this place, much more than you do. It's our house. And this is only where I'll come back to."
"But you did not come home for the last break too. Chirag came to visit his parents."
"Mom, daddy, you know I had my papers right after the beark from Monday. Chirag had an extra two days gap." Diya looked at Aditya. "It's hardly a year more now daddy... And I am enjoying living independently there. Ofcourse I miss you two. But... I like it there too. It's like a new experience."
"Diya, are you sure that's the only reason?" Aditya asked. "You can be frank with us."
"Yes daddy. What can be the other reason?"
"Maybe the truth we told you back. You couldn't leave then... So now..."
Diya understood what her parents were saying. Nisha and Aditya weren't the biological parents of Diya. Diya was infact Aditya's niece.
Diya lost her biological parents in a car crash. Her father lost his life on the way to the hospital itself and her mother while childbirth.
Aditya bought up Diya as his own child. Since childhood Diya referred to Aditya as her real father.
When Nisha got married to Aditya, Diya was just five years old. Old enough to understand but young enough to even forget those memories.
Reluctantly when Diya turned fifteen years old, Aditya and Nisha revealed the entire truth to Diya. The few further days were tough. Diya had secluded herself away from her the two. She refused to speak to anyone, even Chirag. But soon with love and care Nisha and Aditya won her back. They had swore never to repeat the truth ever again. Diya would always be cared for by Aditya and Nisha like their own daughter.
But today the worried parents bought the topic out once again. They only wanted to clarify if there were any doubts or worries in Diya's mind.
"Daddy, that is definitely not the reason. I always consider you and mom as my parents only... I do feel sad that I lost my biological parents. But I also feel lucky to have got you two as my parents who love and care for me so much."
"No dear. It is we who are lucky to have a wonderful daughter like you." Nisha pulled Diya for a hug.
Shruti who was standing at the table looked on at the three. Naren too came and stood beside her. Both of them looked admiringly at Nisha and her family. Diya was not blood related to her mother nor even the real daughter of Aditya. But the three of them loved each other and were tightly bound like any other family. Probably even more.
Shruti looked adoringly at the family. Naren too stepped beside her. They were so proud of Nisha. She had made such a beautiful and comfortable life with her family.
Chirag came behind them and put a hand on their shoulders. Chirag gave his mother a kiss on her cheek and gave his dad a smile.
Soon all of them took places at the table and enjoyed the brunch. This was followed by some dessert in the garden. They spent a long time there chatting and discussing on various topics from college to business to vacations.
Diya thanked her parents for the lovely cupcakes to which Aditya said. Anything for my princess.
