36 - "Now give me a smile..."

"5 laps to go..." The coach shouted and whistled. "Come on, faster..." He clapped. "Show some speed..."

The team finished their laps and circled around the coach.

"Good job for today team." The coach praised as he noted down something on his clipboard. He then looked at the boys. "See you at sharp six o'clock tomorrow for practice... Dismissed."

Everyone on the ground groaned.

"Come on boys. Just one week left for the finals, you need to buck up. Do you want the win the finals or not?"

"Yes sir." The team shouted.

After practice Rohit jogged to the locker room. He checked his mobile for any reply from Diya. He had texted her a few hours back asking where she was. He had thought to take her out for a coffee or some ice-cream.

Sorry can't meet today. Busy. Was Diya's reply.

Rohit's expression got sulky as he read the message. He was looking forward to spend time with her. He had not been able to give her time in the past week. He was busy with classes and cricket practice immediately after it. Luckily for the day he just had practice and hence was free early.

But what could he do. He decided to freshen up and then meet Omkar and Abhi. He sent them a text asking them if they were interested in playing video games. He then kept his mobile back inside the locker and took out a fresh set of clothes and shower gel before heading to the shower.

Ten minutes later he was freshly dressed in a pair of tracks and a t-shirt and he retrieved his mobile from his locker.

"Bye guys." He shouted to his teammates before exiting the locker room.

As he shook his hand through his wet hair, trying to dry them off, he unlocked his mobile. There was a text from Omkar.

Meet you in your room in half an hour with Abhi.

He sent thumbs up emoji to Omkar. Walking towards his dormitory building he dialled up Diya's number.

Cannot meet her. But can hear her voice atleast.

It rang for a few seconds before she disconnected the call.

She really seems to be quite busy. I'll call her later. Or directly meet her at dinner. For now I'll just go to my room and take a nap till Omkar and Abhi arrive.

Rohit fished out his dorm room key from his pocket and was about to put it in the keyhole when the door opened from inside.

"Hi!"

Rohit stepped back in surprise when he saw Diya standing in his room.

"Hey..." He took a step towards her. "What are you doing here?"

"I have planned a small surprise for you tonight."

"What surprise?"

"Movies, drinks, dinner, dessert and me for the entire night in your room itself."

"What are you saying?" Rohit's face brightened with a smile.

"You were busy with practice during the last week and we hardly spent anytime with each other. I found out from Chirag that you guys were supposed to get free early today, so I planned this. From tomorrow you will be busy once again for the week."

"Great idea Diya." He hugged her. "Truly I was missing you a lot today and that's why I texted you and called you."

"And the surprise is why I cut your call."
