I Missed You (Bucky x Reader)

~Chapter 28~

His mind was betraying him. The second that man said the word 'Bucky' something lit up inside him. It was weird, he didn't know what it meant but he still felt like he heard it before. Right after the man said that familiar word, the faces of the woman with the y/h/c hair and the blond man started becoming more and more familiar. He didn't know who they were, but his subconscious did, making him feel conflicted. The woman's face was the one that was bothering him the most. Every single time he remembered her face, he felt a strange but warm feeling coming from his heart. That's when the flashbacks started. Images of the girl's face started flashing in his brain, including a flashback of her laughing as Bucky spun her around before she landed back in his arms, a fire in her eyes and that beautiful smile never leaving her face. He gets another similar flashback but this time it's at night and the girl and him are drenched in rain as they laugh and dance around, not caring about their wet state. The flashbacks increase, showing him images of kissing this girl as some meaningful sentences play in his brain.

"You are everything I never knew I always wanted." he hears himself say.

"I love you." he hears her say. "I love you too, y/n." he says. Y/n? So that was her name.

Suddenly, the nice flashbacks change and he feels himself fall down as he calls the girl's name. He sees her face as he keeps falling into the abyss. The next memories are full of pain and torture, and he doesn't see the girl anymore, making him feel fear, something he hadn't felt in a long time. Well, he hadn't felt anything in a very long time, but seeing those two people unlocked something deep within him, making him feel an intense amount of emotions at the same time.
He was starting to understand those memories, but at the same time, they were confusing him even more. This woman and this man seemed to have been very important to him, but why wasn't it like that anymore? What happened? And why was he attacking them?
Pandora's box had been opened, making Bucky ask himself questions that he couldn't find the answers to.

His confusing thoughts are interrupted when Bucky feels someone fixing his arm. It catches him off guard and he pushes the man off of him harshly against the floor out of pure rage. He was feeling so confused that it was making him become unstable and erratic. Another agent points a gun at him to stop him from attacking any further. Bucky realizes and doesn't hurt anyone else as he keeps breathing heavily.
Suddenly, an old man and a group of Hydra agents enter the room, and the older man approaches Bucky.

Pierce leans down to come face to face with him. "Mission report." he demands, but it's like he's not even there. Bucky's gaze remains lost as memories and flashbacks keep invading his mind. "Mission report, now." Pierce repeats, but again, Bucky doesn't respond. Suddenly, Pierce brings his hand down with force and slaps Bucky across the face, making his head turn to the side. But Bucky doesn't even flinch, he's too focused on something else. He slowly turns his head again to look at the wall in Pierce's direction, but without fully looking at him.

"The man and woman on the bridge..." Bucky starts saying. "Who were they?" he asks, finally meeting Pierce's eyes. He looks like an innocent kid asking about something he's curious about but also scared to ask about it.

"You met them earlier this week on another assignment." Pierce says.

"I knew them." Bucky says.

Pierce grabs a chair and takes a seat in front of Bucky. "Your work has been a gift to mankind. You shaped the century, and I need you to do it one more time." Pierce says. "Society is at a tipping point between order and chaos. Tomorrow morning we're gonna give it a push. But, if you don't do your part, I can't do mine, and Hydra can't give the world the freedom it deserves."

"But I knew them." Bucky insists, a sad look starting to make its way over his features. "I knew her..."

Pierce stands up, losing his patience. "Prep him." he tells one of the doctors.
