After the final battle was over, all the heroes went to Tony's cabin. He offered shelter to the team since the facility got destroyed even though most of them had their own place, but considering what they just went through, they thought it'd be good to spend a few days together. It was a little crowded but the cozy cabin was still big enough to fit everyone.

Bucky's inside the small room in the attic he was going to share with Steve for the next few days when suddenly a knock on the door disrupts his thoughts. It had only been a few hours since the battle was won, and Bucky locked himself in the room, not wanting to deal with anything or anyone and just trying to find a way to heal the deep wound your death has left in him, even though he knows it won't ever heal.
He gets up from the bed and walks towards the door before opening it. He finds Steve holding the hand of his three-year-old daughter. Bucky's already red and puffy eyes tear up at the sight of the little girl and he kneels down to meet her height.

"Daddy!" Diana squeals before lunging forward to hug her dad.

"Hi, sweetie!" he says, hugging her back tightly. "It's so good to see you." Bucky looks up at Steve and mouths a thank you. Steve smiles and nods.

"I missed you so much!" she says.

"I missed you too," Bucky says, before kissing the side of her head. "I missed you too..."

Diana steps out of the hug to look at Bucky. "Where's Mommy?"

Bucky takes a deep breath, his eyes quickly darting up to meet Steve's sad ones before landing on Diana again. "She umm..." Bucky starts as his voice trembles. He has no idea what to say or how. "She isn't here."

"Where is she?" the little girl asks, confused.

Bucky tries to think of how to explain to his daughter that her mother is gone forever as he holds his tears back. "Remember what we once told you... about how half of the universe had disappeared?" he asks, and Diana nods rapidly. "Well... she fixed it, and now, thanks to her, everyone's here again. But to do that she had to go very far away."

"How far?" Diana frowns.

"Really far. She's in a good place now, but... but she's not coming back," Bucky says, his voice breaking.

"But I want to see Mommy!" Diana raises her high-pitched voice as tears begin to well up in her eyes. "I want Mommy!" she cries.

Bucky wipes his daughter's tears away before cupping her face. "I know you do. I want to see her too, but we can't," Bucky sniffs. "You still have me though, okay? And even if Mommy isn't here right now, she's always going to be with us, she's always going to be with you."

Diana looks down with a frown. "I never showed her how to use the lightsaber," she pouts, making Bucky smile sadly as he strokes her cheek softly.

"I know, honey, I'm sorry," he coos.

Eventually, Diana's sadness is replaced by excitement when Morgan asks her to play with her. Even though the fact that she's going to grow up without you is killing Bucky, he's also glad that she can't feel the pain that he's feeling right now. He wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Bucky is in his room again, alone, knowing Diana was safe downstairs with Morgan and other adults. He feels lost. He thought that the life the two of you had built during the last five years was definitive, and that it would always be that way, that you would grow old together and that you'd always be by his side. You were the most important person in his life along with Diana, and even Steve, and now that you're gone he can't see that future he could see so clearly less than a week ago.

Suddenly, the door opens and Steve walks through it, making Bucky's head turn towards him.

"Hey," Steve says with a small smile, and Bucky tries to return it, but it disappears quickly. "Do you wanna come down for dinner?"
