FIVE YEARS LATER

September 17th, 2023

The only sound that can be heard is the familiar burble of the coffee machine and the subtle chirping of the birds as you lean against the counter and look outside the open window with your arms crossed over your chest. The sun is shining brightly outside with no clouds blocking its light.
The ding of the coffee machine lets you know your coffee is ready, and you push yourself off the counter before grabbing the cup.
Before you have time to turn around again, two strong arms suddenly wrap themselves around your waist, the weight of the muscular body pressed up behind you keeping you in place.

"You're up early," Bucky says, resting his chin on your shoulder.

"Said the Sleeping Beauty," you tease.

"I'm sorry, but what did you expect after forcing me to stay up late last night to play Scrabble?" he fights back, keeping his arms tight around your waist.

"Well, aren't you glad it ended up turning into something else?" you smirk as you rest you head back against his shoulder. He takes this opportunity to start planting small kisses on your neck, and you close your eyes with a smile.

"Yes, indeed," he says against your neck. "Speaking of which... think we got time for one more?"

You open your eyes to look at the digital clock on the microwave, and you sigh before pulling away slightly. "As much as I'd love to, we're already running late."

"Fine." Bucky pouts before stepping away from you, and you chuckle at his childish demeanor.

"You should probably-"

"Already on it, doll." Bucky winks at you before walking away into the hallway, and you shake your head with a smile.

Bucky opens the door carefully before opening the blinds to let the sunlight inside the dark room. He then approaches the bed and kneels in front of it.

"Hey," he coos as he gently shakes the small girl awake.

She rolls on her side before opening her blue-grey eyes and meeting Bucky's. "Good morning, Daddy," she yawns, making Bucky smile.

"Mornin', sweetheart." He brushes a strand of her y/h/c hair that was blocking her young features before sitting on the bed. The three-year-old copies her father's actions and sits against the bed's headboard. "Wanna have some breakfast? Mommy's preparing your favorite."

The little girl gasps and her eyes widen with a bright smile. "Lucky charms?"

"Yes," Bucky chuckles.

1 year after the snap

You kept your promise to Nat, and you stayed in the compound with her for six months moving heaven and earth to find a way to bring everyone back. However, it was easier said than done. No matter what you tried, you never seemed to make any progress, not even a little bit. The Avengers who were left were you, Steve, Bucky, Natasha, Rhodey, Carol, Okoye, Rocket, and Nebula. Tony had retired with Pepper to a cozy cabin away from the city, Thor left with the remaining civilization of Asgard and settled in Norway, Bruce locked himself away in a lab, and Clint had gone MIA, the only thing letting you know he was still alive being the trail of bodies he left behind.
