I Missed You (Bucky x Reader)

~Chapter 30~

After SHIELD fell, you and Steve moved back to an apartment in New York, and the Avengers became a private organization from the government separate from SHIELD.
For an entire year, you, Steve, and Sam tried to look for Bucky, following any lead you found no matter how small. You came close to finding him a few times but Bucky was good at this and managed to find a new cover. He didn't want to be found, and you knew that as long as that didn't change, you wouldn't find him.

Then, Ultron happened. You all came close to dying, but thankfully Fury showed up just in time and saved the day. After that, a large compound was built for the Avengers in Upstate New York, and several people from the team moved in: you, Steve, Nat, Sam, and the newest members of the team Wanda, and Vision. Sometimes Tony would stay in the compound too for a couple of weeks. You and Wanda got off on the wrong foot at first, but once she stopped working for Ultron and joined the Avengers, you realized that she was just lost and trying to look for somewhere to belong. You became close friends during your time at the compound as you, Steve, and Nat trained the new recruits. Thor left after the world was saved once again, and Bruce.... Bruce stayed as the Hulk and left for space in a spaceship. Nobody knew where he was now.

Once all the new changes settled in your life, you resumed your search, but months passed, and this time you weren't even coming close to finding him. You didn't know what to do. You knew that Sam and even Steve were slowly losing hope, but you couldn't afford to do that, especially since you were the only one at this point that was still holding on to hope. If you didn't fight for Bucky, no one would.

~2016~

The song "This Girl" blasts around your bedroom as you get out of your shower. You start getting ready as you sing along and dance to the song carelessly. Today you woke up in a good mood, so you used the occasion and asked FRIDAY to play loud upbeat music as you got ready for the day. Once you've finished brushing your hair and gotten dressed, you turn the music off and start making your way to the kitchen, still humming a melody as you walk.

"Mornin'!" you say with a bright smile as you enter the Avenger-filled kitchen.

"Hey!" you hear Natasha and other teammates say as you walk behind the bar to make yourself some breakfast.

"Y/n, we could hear the music from here." Steve says.

"Calm down, grandpa, it's not like anyone else was sleeping." you say as you pour milk into the bowl full of cereal before turning around and walking towards the table.

"You know that by saying that, it technically makes you a grandma, right?" Steve says with a smirk on his face and you pout jokingly.

"At least I have a young spirit." you smirk back as you sit in front of him and in between Nat, and Sam. You enjoyed living in the compound, it made you feel at home. You all became really close due to so much time spent together. Mornings were usually like this, everyone having breakfast together and just enjoying each other's company. "So, you guys ready for your mission?" you ask before eating a spoonful of cereal. Everyone (Wanda, Nat, Steve, and Sam) was going on a mission except you and Vision, simply because they didn't need more than one super soldier for this mission. After months of trying to find Rumlow, they finally got a lead. You were told they were leaving today for Lagos, but you don't know for how long. "How long is it gonna be?"

"Three days tops." Steve answers. "Maybe two."

"Oh God, I'm gonna be so bored." you chuckle. "I'll probably just go visit Tony in New York."

All of you keep talking and once you're done eating, you take your bowl with you and walk towards the sink, where Natasha is doing the dishes.

"Was my music really that loud this morning?" you ask as you help her.
