She turned back to her husband, who had finally let his guard down and looked a little sick.
"What the fuck..."
Shikamaru, Choji, and Sai emerged from the other side of the divider, sitting across from them. Choji sat at the end. They all looked a little upset and baffled.
"What in the fuck was that about?"
Kakashi sighed.
"Two of the worst parents on the planet."
Shikamaru looked at her.
"How did you turn out so normal, Z?"
She chuckled.
"Probably because they were never around. Luckily, Kakashi was there for most of my childhood, so I made it through."
Sai looked confused.
"Those were really your parents, Mizuka? Did Sakura have a similar upbringing?"
"No, not that I'm aware of. From what I understand, things had changed by then, so Sakura had a pretty typical childhood. They just pretended that I didn't exist."
She turned to her husband.
"I still think my father is full of shit to some extent, but my mother was at least honest. It sounds like she still doesn't want anything to do with me, and I'm okay with that."
She shrugged.
"It's just too back that your father isn't with us anymore, Kakashi. We wouldn't need to fuck with them at all."
A look of comtemplation came across Kakashi's eyes. Even 30 years later, he still missed his father terribly. Naming her first born after him was the least she could do.
"My dad would have been a wonderful grandfather, but unfortunately, if we want our kids to have any living grandparents in their lives, this is the best we can do. And even with that, I'm still unsure of this. I should have never spoken to Kizashi that night-"
"Oh stop. You were only trying to make things a little less anxiety filled for me. Thank you for trying to mend things with my mother and father."
She leaned over and gave him a peck on the cheek, making his cheeks flush a little over the top of his mask. Choji still looked upset.
"How can anyone do that to their child? When I think of little Cho Cho, my heart swells with love and pride. It wouldn't matter what she did or how she was. How can people be so awful?"
Mizuka put a comforting hand over his, patting it. Cho Cho was only a couple of weeks old and he was already such a caring father. He bonded with her rather quickly. She looked back up, smirking.
"Are you guys here as backup?"
Shikamaru grinned.
"We were going to go in for the kill if this was a trap of some sort, or if things went poorly. Hokage's orders. Although, after listening to that, I kinda wish we would've just jumped over the divider-"
"No, no. Sakura still needs her parents. They suck, but they've always been kind to her. But, thanks, guys. It means a lot that you would kill them for me."
She looked over at a still upset Kakashi, ruffling his messy hair.
"You okay?"
He blew air out of his nose frustratingly.
"They really are terrible people, Mizuka. How can you tell someone you want to abort them to their face? And Kizashi's pussyfooting around the fact that he used to beat the shit out of you because of your clothes and your chakra tears. I'm surprised you're not more upset, Z."
She shrugged.
"Maybe it hasn't sunken in yet. I already knew they resented me."
"And then Kizashi was poking around, trying to see if he made the right decision by asking you if your deficiency has affected your life. That's why I stepped in. You can't abandon someone and then basically ask if you made the right decision in doing so."
"Lady Z, may I ask you what they meant by the travelling stories?"
Sai broke up the tension, and she couldn't help but laugh. Even a frustrated Kakashi chuckled a little. Shikamaru looked at Sai incredulously. Sai was completely confused why everyone would laugh at his serious question.
"You've never heard of the Legendary Lover of Tenchi?"
Sai looked a little embarassed, but he couldn't have been any more embarasshed than Mizuka.
"No, I haven't."
"Nononono..."
It was too late. Choji was already leaning over the table, closer to Mizuka and louder than he needed to be to address Sai.
"You mean the Legendary Lover of Tenchi? Oh, she's the finest in the Five Lands who's had any man worth having in the Five Great Nations!"
She quickly cupped a hand over Choji's mouth, trying to stop the rest of it. But even the young shinobi at the table knew the limerick, and Kakashi and Shikamaru yelled the rest.
"But that can't be true because she hasn't had me!"
She planted her face into the sleeve of Kakashi's robes and slid down until her red face was hiding in his lap amidst the fits of laughter above her. Oh god, they were still calling her that.
Suddenly, she heard Kakashi add to it.
"But it MUST be true because I've had her!"
Shikamaru and Choji yelled out and she heard glasses clink, followed by more laughter. She wasn't sure when this very serious meeting had turned into boys night out. She popped her head back up.
"Oh my god! Shut the fuck up!"
Everyone was still laughing except for Sai, who had a look on his face like his brain had shorted. She turned to him.
"I've garnered a reputation as someone who has slept with a lot of men, and quite a few women as well."
A smile came to Sai's lips.
"And have you?"
She couldn't help but smile as well.
"Yes. It's nothing I'm ashamed of, it just comes back to haunt me every once in a while."
They chatted a bit longer before parting ways. Kakashi thanked the makeshift team once again before taking her hand and squeezing it gently, walking down the street.
"Well, that was awful."
She grinned to herself.
"You didn't have to have Team Asshat jump in, so it must not have gone that poorly. You're the leader of Team Asshat, by the way."
"Are you really mad?"
"No. But, I'm also not letting this one go."
He shrugged.
"I can't help it if I'm currently fucking the Legendary Lover of Tenchi-"
She smacked him in the arm playfully, laughing.
"Oh, I think you can help it. And it won't keep happening if you don't stop calling me that."
"I'm sorry."
She put an arm around his waist, pulling him closer to herself.
"I forgive you. This time."
He laughed and put an arm around her shoulders. She looked up at him, seeing his eyes closed in contentment as he walked with her. At least the laughter helped him forget the things her parents had said for the moment. But, she knew that wouldn't last for long.
