In the quiet hours between dusk and dawn,
I find my mind wandering,
Beyond dreaming, beyond reality,
To the realm of What-If.
What If that was my child,
Walking to school with a Power Rangers backpack,
A Transformers lunchbox,
And Yu-Gi-Oh! shoes?
What If you were the father,
Bringing in a paycheck
Just big enough to keep us afloat?
What if we were married
And lived in a perfect house
With a manicured lawn
And a white picket fence?
What If that was my car
Parked in the driveway?
What If that was yours
Parked right next to it?
What If I were a trillionaire?
What If I were a best-selling author?
All these What-Ifs.
