----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It has been the worst weekend of my life. I've become a vampire, wait scratch that, reincarnated vampire. I also have a forbidden vampire boyfriend. Oh and to top that off, a crazy vampire husband who I'm beginning to despise. Life can't get any better can it?

I decided not to go to Josh's house. It was too risky. If what Alex says is true, that means Josh and I can't be seen together. I guess I'll have to talk to him at school. Well if he's even there.

When I pulled open my locker, Xavier stepped up to me. "Good morning, my lady." he said. I was a little worried he might bow to me.

"Hey Xavier. What are you doing here?" I asked. If Xavier is here, there's no way I can talk to Josh.

"I'm here to protect you."

"I have some crazy powers don't I? I don't need protection. I'm good."

"The Cutters are everywhere. They'd love to have you killed. But cannot act in front of humans."

"Cutters? Where?" I searched the crowd of students, but didn't see anything different about them.

"You'll see." He told me. "Eventually at least." That was the last thing he said before he disappeared into the crowd.

I glanced through the crowd again. Nothing out of the ordinary. Not one... "Josh?" I murmured.

Josh was walking hand in hand with Shelby Simmons. She had the cutest blond curls bouncing over her green tank top. Everyone was looking at them, sulking in that they were taken. Josh's green eyes meshed with his dark T and jeans. I realized that Shelby was much prettier than me. The only make-up I wear is dark mascara and eye shadow over my blue eyes. Not a match for Shelby. I wasn't surprised either because Josh had gained a high rep since he became a vampire.

As they strolled past me I tried to catch Josh's attention. Make his eyes meet mine just a for a second. But it didn't. I only got in return Shelby's gaze. It was a mocking sinister gaze. What was up with her?

I stood inside the auditorium waiting for Josh. He had always told me he still wanted to play baseball in high school because his coach demanded it. He was really good at it.

I glanced down the hallway to see him walking over, his baseball mitt in hand. Once he came near, I tugged his arm pulling him in. He gasped when he collapsed on top of me. "Sky!" he shrieked.

"Hey Josh." I tried hard to smile over the lack of oxygen.

"What are you doing?" he demanded standing up.

"I have to tell you about Alex." I spit out. He reached out an arm and pulled me to my feet. "He's not who says he is. He's Lance's--"

"I already know that." he stopped me.

"You know?"

"Yes but he's changed. He's no longer against me. He says he's neutral."

What bull did he put into Josh's head. He must've got to him before me. "No he's wrong. He wants you dead."

"No he's changed--"

I stepped closer so I could met his eyes. "Look at me. Alex bit me last night. Isn't that prohibited?"

Josh rejected my stare. "He would never do that."

"I've known you for a long time." I pulled his chin so he could look at me. His eyes grew wide when he did. "You know I'm telling the truth."

"How can I even trust you anymore? You lied to me about your dreams." he exclaimed pulling away from me.

"I didn't understand it myself. How could I explain it to you?" I shot back.

"You could have tried."

"Ok. Well try to explain what you're doing with Shelby. I know you never like her before." Blurting that out quieted the both of us.

"She's who I'm meant to be with." he said softly.

"What are you talking about?"

"Shelby's a vampire too. A Cutter. She's meant to be my wife."

I remembered the vision I had last night. The angry aura between both parties. "And Lance is meant to be mine." I muttered and lowered my head.

Josh nodded. "I am the reincarnation of Jacob. And you are the reincarnation of Dementia. Neither sides have found out about our relationship, but if they do, if we fall in love again, all generations of vampires will be wiped out. If we stay away from each other, there will be no more confrontation between them. That's what Lance told me."

"So you weren't protecting me. You were protecting them?"

He came over and pulled me into a hug. "And you. I can't bear to lose you again."

I soaked in his scent, having a feeling I wouldn't be able to smell it again. "Lose me again?"

"Every time we tried to stay together, I always lost you. And I can't have that happen again. My heart can't take it."

I pulled out of his hug to look at him. "I love you Josh."

"To death." He pulled me into a heart wrenching kiss. One I felt might not happen again. I pushed away everything that ran through my thoughts and only focused on this and this only. Josh loved me enough to let me go. And I felt the same. This feeling I had every time I heard about the Gideons is exactly what Josh felt about the Cutters.

"I have to go to practice," Josh whispered, leaning away from me.

I kissed him again. "Do you have to?"

He laughed, arching a little closer to my lips. "You have no idea how much I want to stay with you." he sighed and stepped backwards towards the door.

I watched him pick up his baseball mitt and slowly step out the door, eyes still bored into mine. "Bye..." I mouthed, but no words seemed to be able to leek out of me. He nodded with a smile, then finally disappeared around the corner of the hallway.
