Backstory: Chris and Vanessa broke up after roughly a year of dating. It was a rough breakup, but they had the same friends, forcing them to tolerate each other. They gave in and hooked up twice after the breakup, both of which Chris cut off all communication with Vanessa after. This chapter takes place shortly after the second hookup.
Third Person
Vanessa pulled into her driveway after a long meeting, relief washing over her. Finally, she had a day to herself.
She unlocked the door to her house and walked in, setting her things down. The first thing she did was change into a much more comfortable outfit. After that, she grabbed a pack of Oreos and casually turned on the TV.
She finished catching up on the new episode of 'Euphoria,' making her look at her phone. To her surprise, Chris had texted her just a few minutes earlier.
Chris
are you homeChris
I'm coming overShe did a double take at her phone, nearly choking on an Oreo as she sat up.
Vanessa
you don't talk to me for two weeks and then decide you're coming over?Chris
I need to talk to youVanessa
don't botherChris
I'm already on my wayVanessa
I won't open the doorChris
I never gave you your key back, loveShe dropped her phone, putting her hand over her face. A mix of emotions flooded her. She was annoyed, she was upset, she was angry.. but mostly over it. Over the confusion he's been giving her.
She ignored what he said. She learned a lot about Chris in the time that they dated, and one thing she knew was that he respected everyone. So, if he really wanted to, he could use the key to get in, but out of respect for her, he wouldn't.
So, after a few minutes of her anxiously waiting, the doorbell had finally rung. Out of instinct, she sat up, only to pause, and sit back down. Pulling a pillow onto her lap, she squeezed it for comfort, hoping he'd leave.
She looked at the door, seeing the top of his head through the glass on top. Fidgeting her fingers, she watched in hope that he'd back away, but he didn't.
He rang the doorbell again, making her sigh. "Go away!" She shouted. Chris heard her call, making his head perk up. Shaking his head, he pulled the keys out of his pocket.
Within the next few seconds, the door flung open, making her close her eyes and sigh.
"You were sitting right there?" He looked at her. "Chris leave me alone," she rolled her eyes, standing up.
"Let me talk to you," he shut the door, following her to the kitchen. "Why? So you can ignore me afterwards again?" She asked.
When he wasn't around, she did so good. She didn't think about him too much. She didn't miss him. But the second she laid eyes on him.. even a picture of him, all that changed.
She remembered her love for him. She remembered how happy they were. All the feelings they shared. And remembering all that only broke her heart more, because.. it wasn't the same. And with the way things were going, it wouldn't be the same for a long time.. if at all.
"Just let me-" "No, I'm fucking done with your mixed signals," she shook her head.
"Okay, are you done? Can I talk now?" He asked, cornering her by the counter.
