I fall asleep in the car and we eventually pull into a small lot. When I open my eyes, I feel a overwhelming rush of happiness fall over me. We're at my grandparents. I walk inside to find a completely empty house. My bedroom is packed up into many small boxes. The lettering on the wall says, 'Don't be afraid to be yourself'. I run my hand along them and find my way to my bedroom door. Up and down the trim is my height for each month since i was around 2. I have always loved coming to my grandparents. My mom walks up the stairs and finds me recalculating my height for the last time.

We load all the boxes into my moms car and she gets in. I run back upstairs to the futon in my bedroom that will stay. I grab the box, and take in the last of what's there. When I get back in the car, my mom shoots out of the driveway."Where are we going?"
"Oh honey, I forgot to mention that you are going to come live with me in California."
"Did you forget that I haven't seen you in seven years ? I can't just go live with you. I can't do that I just-"
"Shut up you're not even a good kid you little slut." Suddenly a stinging on my face gets added onto the sentence. My mom just slapped me. And now, she quickly throws her hand over her mouth to try to take it back.
"You can't," I say with an aggressive tone while she plainly stares at me, " you can't take it back."
