The next morning I woke up alone. When I open my eyes I don't find anyone. Matt bursts into my bedroom looking tired with sloppy hair and bags under his eyes holding a disc in his hand. I still don't know him and I still can't remember anything. I want to believe everything he's telling me but it's hard when I have absolutely no memory of it.
"Jess! I know you still don't remember and that's okay. I stayed up all night and made this. Here, watch," he says as he slides a disc into the DVD player on my tv.
Light music begins to play in the background and pictures start to show up on the screen. The first thing i see is a little baby with pig tails and a bow .
"That's you, Jess. You were a year old to the day. "
My entire childhood flashed onto the screen within 5 minutes, each picture being narrated by Matt. The weirdest thing is that I still don't remember anything. Matt sees the tears falling from my cheeks and immediately runs from the chair he was sitting in to hug me. As a person, he's great, but I can't see myself with him.
--
"I want to take you to the park. The one, that we first kissed. If that's okay with you," Matt asks as we eat.
"Yeah, sure, whatever," I say through my teeth.
--
As we step onto the grass, I smell something sweet. Fresh grass with not one footprint. The park is empty. Just how I like it.
"I have an entire day planned Jess. As friends. "
We start to play on the swings and talk. As we are swinging, I look at Matt. He is up in the air in slow motion, laughing. He's great. He really is. He has done everything he can to make me fall for him again, and I'm trying my hardest.
