Sitting on a chair in the hospital for ten hours is one of the most uncomfortable things you could ever do. Pacing back and fourth, visiting the snack machine every twenty minutes, and cheesy magazines about health was the only thing keeping me sane. When the doctor called me back, I practically sprinted to the room.

"Hello Jessica, my name is Dr. Willow and I want to inform you that Matthew will survive. He had a small tumor in his brain that cut off a small amount of blood circulation, which led to a gradual strain of blood flow throughout the night," I hear with a sigh of relief and a push of disappointment.

"Thank you, will I be able to see him soon?"

"Not soon enough I suppose, we will not be able to allow you in the room for another 48 hours. We want to make sure all is well. For now, go home, get rest, and inform all of his family and friends."

When I walk in the front door of me and Matt's house, I let my mom know I am home. I go up to my bed to lay down. This day could not get any worse right?

Wrong.

Next thing I notice is the sound of water trickling from the faucet downstairs . When i go downstairs to turn the water off and get a snack, I realize that my mom wasn't anywhere to be found. The kitchen drain was plugged with water running down the sides of the sink. When I reach to turn it off I hear a voicemail going off on our home phone machine.

"Rachel? Where are you? I have been trying to get ahold of you all day. We were supposed to go shopping... remember?"

I reach for my phone in my backpacker to call my mom when I remember the voicemails and messages that were left on my phone this morning.

Seven texts and one call from Isaiah, nine texts and three missed calls from my Mom, three texts from my Grandma.

Mommyyy 😞😒

10:28 A.M.
Hey, I'm going shopping with Liz later on. Just wanted to let you know.

10:29 A.M.
Don't forget to keep the door locked, and don't be doing anything weird up there with Matt!! lol

10:45 A.M.
Are you still sleeping ?

11:43 A.M.
Honey, where are you ?

11:54 A.M.
Jess, call me back!

12:00 P.M.
Why aren't you answering? I really need to talk to you.

12:34 P.M.
I love you. I'll leave you alone.

I didn't bother to read the messages from my grandma and Isaiah. Instead, I went to look for my mom to tell her I was sorry. I walked into her bedroom to the sound of running water. When I stepped into her bathroom, I was in complete shock. There in the bathtub, lay her lifeless body. Underneath the water. Her skin, pale and wrinkly. In her open hand, lay pills. Pills, on the counter. The weight of my body collapsed as I fell to the floor on my knees.

"911 what's your emergency ?" a familiar women's voice states.

"My mom, my m-mom, sh- she . I think she's dead."

"Honey, stay calm. What is your address ?"

"2805 North Cove Drive, please hurry."

"Would you like me to stay on the line sweetie?" A calming voice says on the other end. She, is the women I talked to about Matt.

"Yes. Y- Yes please," I whisper.
