i wake up to the car coming to a sudden halt. my surroundings are darkened by the night sky, but i can just barely make out a large standing home in front of us.
"where are we, gray?" i ask, turning towards his seat to fully look at him.
"denver. my family owns this house," he smiles, an exhausted grin taking over his chapped lips.
i smile as well, glad to finally be able to stretch my legs. grayson gets out of the car first and i watch as he comes to my side. my door opens and he grabs my hand leading me to the front door.
"bailey," i remember and start to walk back to the car.
"you're tired, i'll get her," grayson responds, making me shake my head.
"you just drove for eight hours straight, i've got it," i say sternly and shoo him up to the front door. he wobbles his way there.
i walk to the back seat grabbing bailey and hoisting her onto my hip. she slumps against my shoulder and closes her eyes again. i grab a few of the bags and bailey's pack-n-play before heading back up to the house.
i walk through the already open front and glance around at the inside. rather large logs line the wall of the home and the warm hard wood floor is a rich mahogany color. the main room is filled with a cozy, yellow looking light coming from the chandelier that dangles from the ceiling.
"gray?" i call out softly, but loud enough that he would hear.
"up here."
i turn around and see a grand wooden staircase leading up to the second floor loft. a lengthy hallway descends from the loft and from there on i see the glow of bedroom door open.
i set the pack-n-play down on the floor and take the two duffel bags up stairs along with bailey. when i get to the bedroom i notice grayson sprawled out on the king size bed, his face down in a pillow.
i set the bags down and lay bailey next to grayson on the bed. i take grayson's hand and guide it to bailey's stomach so he would know she was there; his hand almost the full size of her belly.
i then walk back down stairs, grabbing the slightly heavy pack-n-play and walking back up to grayson and i's bedroom.
i walk into our room and notice grayson has pulled bailey close to him, her small body snuggled up against his chest.
and as much as i don't want to break this moment i scoop bailey up, trying my hardest not to wake either.
"there's a room across the hall, bailey can sleep there," grayson says, his eyes still closed and his voice groggy.
i nod, even though he can't see me and walk across the hall, taking bailey and her pack-n-play with me. she whines and shush her while caressing her cheek. i quickly set up the pack-n-play and lay bailey in it with her blanket and little stuffed animal.
i walk out of bailey's room and into the hallway, shutting the door softly. instead of going back into our room i go down the long staircase and into the kitchen. all the appliances fit perfectly into the walls and dark cabinets.
i peek into a few cabinets hoping to find some tea bags or coffee grounds. the last cabinet i reach has a coffee maker below, sparking my interest and peaking my hope. i open the cabinet and find a bag of coffee beans and a box of green tea.
i grab the tea and pull a mug out of one of the previous cabinets i had opened up earlier. i put some water in the mug and set it in the microwave, not wanting to actually boil water on the stove. the water finishes and i grab the mug with both hands, carefully incase the sides were hot.
i then place the tea bag in the steaming water and let the water soak it up.
i take a seat near the large window at the back of the house. right now there wasn't much to see, but i bet in the morning there would be an amazing view of the rockies.
a pair of hands grip onto my waist and i whip my head around quick to find grayson sat behind me. there are bags under his eyes and his hair is a mess.
"go back to bed, baby," i say putting my hand on his cheek, rubbing my thumb underneath his eye.
"can't sleep unless you are with me," he states matter-of-factly and buries his head in the crook of my neck.
his lips place kisses on my skin and then he goes still, his breathing becoming more deep. soon small snores can be heard.
"gray, baby, come on. let's go back upstairs," i smile and push some hair away from his face. and with that he stands up half asleep, half awake, and we slowly make our way to our room.
grayson lays down and i pull the blankets up to his chin, sliding in next to him. grayson crawls over to me and wraps his arm around my waist, laying his head on my stomach. he kiss near my bellybutton once, twice and lays down for good.
my hands comb through his hair and he hums, satisfied. once he is asleep i lean over slowly and turn the last lamp off, making the room completely dark.
* * *
"mama!" a baby voice awakens me from my deep sleep.
bailey is walking around on the bed and then she plops down next to me. pulling on my hair and then twisting it around her finger.
"where's daddy?" i ask and she looks at me as if i'm speaking a foreign language. "bails, where's daddy?"
she shrugs her shoulders and i stand up causing my head to spin. i stand still for a couple seconds, balancing myself out.
i help bailey down off the bed as she holds onto my index finger. we walk down the stairs and into the living room glancing around and then into the kitchen. i sit bailey on the table as i see a note on the counter signed by grayson saying that went to the grocery store and he'd be back by ten.
"alright, bails, do you want some breakfast?" i ask and she nods her head vigorously.
i find some puffs in the diaper bag and i set them on the table next to her, sitting down in one of the chairs to make sure she doesn't fall. i check around and out the windows. we're in the middle of the woods but once you step in the living room, the big windows by the back open up to the city of denver and the rockies in the background.
about an hour or so later, as bailey and i are playing in the living room with some toys, the front door opens and grayson walks in, grocery bags in both his hands.
"c'mon, lets go help daddy," i say to bailey and she wobbly stands up with me, grabbing onto my finger.
we help grayson unload the groceries from the car and then put everything away. one bag in particular stands out and it's because of what it contains.
suddenly, grayson is behind me, looking at what i'm looking at.
"i got them just incase," he said, a genuine look crossing over his face as his arms wrap around me and his hands land on my stomach.
the pregnancy tests stare back at me from the bottom of the bag and i almost tear up.
"just incase," i say, my voice trembling.
a/n: okay so i know i've been really shitty at updating lately. so many things have happened and i'm exhausted and stressed to the max but i'm trying to keep up with everything. school is kicking my ass and it's only the second week but i promise i will be better at being active as much i can...thank you all for your support and i love you
